April 25, 2021

“More than 50% of our population has received at least one dose of the Covid vaccine” and effective June 6th “all non-immunised travellers entering Bermuda will be subject to supervised quarantine for 14 days in a designated facility at their own expense.”

These were a few of the statements made by Premier David Burt as he delivered a National Address this evening [April 25] entitled “Moving Beyond The Pandemic.” You can read his full speech here, and if you just want to review some of the graphics shown during the Premier’s address you can see some of them below, however for better context, you are advised to also read the full speech which is here.

When does Phase 2 start? When does the ridiculous alphabet shopping end? Does anybody other than the Premier read through these proclamations?

  2. So how does the 14 day quarantine for non vaccinated persons effect tourism for Bermuda this summer and how do we address the many families that have to go back and forth to Boston and Baltimore for medical, and they can’t take the vaccine in some cases, do we make these persons pay out of the ying yang. Further more if you follow the statistics the spread is more then 90% local transmission, so how can you hold the travelers responsible.

    • Dejavu says:

You sound very ignorant smh…no one has to go back and forth for medical reasons. Your either in need of medical attention or your not, it’s that simple. People going back forth makes no sense at all. 90% local transmission doesn’t mean it came from us. Common sense would tell you the virus has to come to Bermuda it didn’t originate here. So people like yourself going back and forth for no really good reason, is what has endangered our island. Majority of the cases contradicted the virus through the vaccine but no one speaks about that either. Also children aren’t at risk unless they have underlying health issues, stop spreading lies

    • Liz Morris says:

That’s where it came from in the first place. Plus the new variants will be kept down.

  3. BDA411 says:

A vaccines do not prevent the virus from spreading they just lower the symptoms of the infected person that was vaccinated. Vaccinated people can enter Bermuda and silently spread the virus without symptoms.

    • Keep up! says:

Yes, vaccines do significantly reduce transmission. Initially they were cautious about this purely because they hadn’t had a chance to study it enough to verify it, but the assumption was always that the vaccines would significantly reduce or even prevent transmission because that’s what pretty much all vaccines in history have done. They wanted to see data before saying that too certainly because of the risks involved in the unlikely event that these vaccines didn’t reduce transmission. However, ALL the data from every country and study that’s been looked at has shown exactly what was assumed—these vaccines prevent the vast majority of transmission, and it is extremely rare for a fully vaccinated person to become infected and carry a viral load high enough to transmit it to others.

    • Jack says:

You are wrong, vacinated people are proven to transmit the virus far less than non-vaccinated people who contract it.

    • Check Yourself says:

Exactly, there is clear discrimination going on here. I see a lawsuit on the horizon. So we are going to discriminate against healthy, non sick, people because they “may” be infected with a virus in which the majority of people have been vaccinated against even though they themselves can still be infected and spreading it. Seriously, come on people!

  4. Let's Keep It Real says:

All they seem to be doing is playing with statistical data! Who cares what position Bermuda is in the world? That’s looking for a pat on the back. That is certainly nothing to brag about. Last year got so comfortable with all the boasting that they allowed a major march through the city during pandemic.

  5. Neptuno says:

Why individuals that have been in island for almost a year gettting vsisitor extensions can not get the vaccine?
Why people applying for annual residence permit and waiting for gov response can not get it either?
Can not these individuals get the virus and transmite to others as well?

  6. Question says:

Life is going yo get a lot more restrictive for people who are not vaccinated. And rightly so.
