To celebrate World Oceans Day on June 8th, the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute [BUEI] will host a virtual career fair for middle, senior and college students from 3pm-7pm.

Inspired by the World Oceans Day 2021 theme of ‘Life & Livelihoods’, BUEI invites students to discover the numerous possibilities of a career related to the Ocean.

“We want to raise student and community awareness of the many oceanic livelihoods that support Bermuda and all of humanity” said Karla Lacey, BUEI CEO. “Whatever a student’s interest, natural talent, skill or passion, there is an ocean-centric opportunity to earn a living.”

A spokesperson said, “Presented live online via Hopin, students will have the opportunity to participate in engaging panel discussions and small group conversations with local and international guests working in a range of fulfilling, ocean-centric occupations. From those rooted in science and technology, advocacy, and conservation, to the arts, crafts, and trades – the ocean offers endless career opportunities.

“The diversity represented by our speakers truly reflects the variety of paths one can take to have an ocean- centric career,” said Lacey. “We’re proud to have both local and international representation on our panels and in the break-out sessions.”

“BUEI’s Ocean Life and Livelihoods: A Career Fair also features a career expo, where students can meet employers and representatives from the private, government and non-profit sectors to learn about jobs, educational scholarships, and intern opportunities. Bermuda Shipping & Maritime Authority, BIOS, the Bermuda Sloop Foundation and Dolphin Quest are among those looking forward to meeting students in the Expo.

“As the primary influencers in students career choices, educators and parents are encouraged to attend,” said Lacey. “The more knowledgeable the community is, the more support and guidance we can provide our young people with their career choices.”

“Registration is required to access this free event. Visit www.BUEI.bm, or call 294-0204 for details. BUEI is a Safe Travel Destination and follows all relevant health protocols to ensure the safety of our guests.”
