BPS: Event Was Shut Down, Vessels Dispersed
A Bermuda Coast Guard crew attended a raft up and “the event was shut down and the vessels involved dispersed” and “the identities of individuals involved were recorded,” the police have confirmed.
A spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Police Service (BPS) is aware of a video clip circulating on social media showing a raft up with several individuals in attendance.
“A Bermuda Coast Guard crew on patrol attended the scene. The event was shut down and the vessels involved dispersed.
“The Coast Guard team took further action to ensure the boats did not move to another location and the activity resumed. The identities of individuals involved were recorded.
“The Coastguard is now collaborating with the BPS to prepare a file to be sent to the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions which will make a determination on any possible further action.
“The BPS investigation into a similar event hosted by U.S. clothing line Revolve, is progressing apace and we would like to thank those individuals who have so far come forward to assist.
“The public is reminded that under the current COVID regulations, raft ups are not permitted at any time. The regulations state: “No person shall tie a boat to another boat (raft up) for recreational purposes.” The guidelines for such events can be found in the Official Gazette Notices by visiting, www.gov.bm
Why didn’t the police bust up the Revolve party?
Because it wasn’t recreational. It was a private photo shoot.
Bingo.
So “private photo shoots” of a party are above the law?
No, Burt champagne parties at hotels are above the law.
This was within the law.
I think you mean it was a commercial photo shoot. Everyone was paid to come here. Hotels, meals, transportation and parties wee all paid for.
I’d be more concerned about church services if I were Burt.
why do people always pick on the churches. Just asking
How long have you got…
Because the churches are silent in all of this.
Do you really think that the present restrictions and guidelines really matter at this point, when we clearly have a Government who’s very selective, sailGP was the first event to slap Bermudians in the face and now this group Revolve because of International exposure will get a slap on the wrist, so why should we as Bermudians pay any attention to this Government who clearly play by their own set of rules and make changes as they go along, just like the St.Regis Exemption.Go Figure
@Duane P Santucci, You are wrong again. You can’t put SailGP in this equation because SailGP did not have any organised spectator areas. In fact, they cancelled them when lockdown came into force. If you watched the races, you were either on your own boat or watching from land like the throngs who were crowded up at Fort Scaur. You only have to blame the folks who did that if you’re looking to blame anyone.
You just have a very well documented and unfounded anger towards the America’s Cup which, unfortunately for you, is still paying off dividends. If you don’t like SailGP just stay away.
I don’t see anywhere that he mentioned anything about spectators.
“You can’t put SailGP in this equation because SailGP did not have any organised spectator areas”
SailGP is Americas Cup Light.
If you recall, the Americas Cup was the worst thing the OBA Government could do. It was giving millions away to white billionaires.
The fact that SailGP even exists in Bermuda should be an outrage to all true Bermudians.
He’s right, you know!
Its no surprise to anyone on this forum that your views a skewed and your opinions often omit facts to make your point.
You speak of Sail GP an event that was aired on TV because of rising Covid numbers. How was its broadcast a slap in the face to all Bermudians?
You speak of St Regis Exemption and Revolve party? I wonder why you left out so many of the other events that took place during the Covid outbreaks AND at a time before we had a vaccine.
Why did you omit the BIU exemption for a funeral march ? Why did you not talk about the 2 Day Sleepy Hollow neighborhood cricket match that was broadcast on Bernews. Why no mention of The BLM march where thousands attended? We know why, because you often like to complain about things without telling the whole story or being fair.
Santucci doesn’t even live in Bermuda. I don’t know why we even bother with him.
You can’t be too aware of your fellow Bermudians if you think Duane doesn’t live here .
Why are raft ups banned? So stupid.
I am King Burt and if I say raft ups are banned they’re banned.
The ban on raft-ups it isn’t grounded in the science, that’s for sure.
If it were, the rules would be uniform – 50 people max gathering size regardless of purpose, churches and raft-ups treated equally. Revolve and Bermudians treated equally.
This is what happens when the law is applied selectively, and the Gov should expect more and more disobedience until fairness is restored.
Church has social distancing and mask wearing and no guzzling of alcohol. Raft ups, not so much.
Why don’t we lock all the anit-vaxers in church?
All you gotta do is watch my ex wife and her new boy toys all acting like they are in Las Vegas our on these raft ups where there are over 100 people texting / se@ting and petting like rock stars and you will get it! Super spreader that can KILL people!!!
I also like many others don’t see the reasoning for not allowing raft ups at this point , it’s clear that the government is not consistent in many ways for whatever reasons !
Because they say so!!!
Why don’t people just let Govt do as they please. What up keep bugging them with questions?
In 4 years time they will be eager to listen to you,…..but please…..not now
Common sense – record boat names, heavily fine the owner of the boats and then they won’t do it again.
why do people always pick on the churches. Just asking
They are trying to set restrictions to help limit the number of people gathering together in close quarters….I don;t think that’s stupid…you can still go boating, and anchor next to each other – just keep your distance and no boat hopping (which is what happens during raft ups) Clearly our people have difficulty making the decision to do that on their own, so the restriction is there to help those mentally challenged individuals who only have the capability to think about themselves.
“They are trying to set restrictions to help limit the number of people gathering together in close quarters….I don;t think that’s stupid…”
So explain why churches can have as many people as they want, but open air raft ups are necessary.
People also need to understand that the World Health Organisation or the CDC has not declared the pandemic over. Everyone is acting like this is all said and done. It is not. Yes numbers are low and vaccinations have greatly helped but we’ve been here before in this false sense of security when we had the 2nd wave in December and the 3rd just now. Both times numbers were very low right before it got out of hand.
We are at the point now, where the government doesn’t want people to love your neighbor and still act as a human being and enjoy life instead of being afraid to live life. This evil of people wanting to rule others is got to stop.
I think you mean it was a commercial photo shoot. Everyone was paid to come here. Hotels, meals, transportation and parties wee all paid for.
For Question: I specifically was addressing the raft up, because that is what was in question. ANY large gatherings should not be permitted unless everyone is wearing a mask and 6 ft apart. You know as well as I do you wont be seeing masks on anyone on a raft up and there won’t be any 6ft between anyone!
