City Undertakes Upgrades To Albuoy’s Point
The City of Hamilton is currently undertaking upgrades to the Albuoy’s Point area.
A spokesperson said, “The upgrades will include improved seating and shade, up-lighting of the existing trees and revitalization of the pedestrian areas for accessing the park as well as the waterfront. Also included in the plan is the relocation of the Jarvis Bay Memorial to a better place of prominence within the park, as well as an upgrade to the area’s electrical supply which will expand opportunities for the park as a dynamic event space.
“There will also be ongoing trenching works as well as the installation of a sewage ejection line near the Ferry Terminal Building, and the widening of the waterside steps leading down to the lower dock.
“The project commenced this week and should take approximately six weeks to complete. During this time there will be limited parking between Point House and Albuoy’s Point.”
“The relocation of the Bill Ming sculpture, Against da Tide, which previously occupied the sidewalk at the entrance to the former Bank of Bermuda building on Front Street, has also been factored into the redevelopment of Albuoy’s Point.
“HSBC Bank Bermuda Limited commissioned Against da Tide as a public art sculpture. Bill Ming’s interpretation of the bronzed statue is one of timeless and contemporary design with historical reference to both Bermuda and its people. He perceived the craft not only as a vessel of transport but also a metaphor for survival.”
“With the development of Point House at 6 Front Street, now was the perfect opportunity for the City of Hamilton to carry out a revamp of the park,” explained Chief Operating Officer/ City Engineer Patrick Cooper.

I am sure the bums will be happy to hear this.

Ahh, the problem continues now that Point House is complete. Too band the City cannot put barriers around that car park like it has done with the others
The bums will soon have it smelling of urine again.
