The Bermuda Government’s Molecular Diagnostics Lab [MDL] is currently accepting applications for its Summer Student Volunteer Programme, which will run from July 4, through Saturday, September 4, 2021.

A Government spokesperson said, “If you’re a young person interested in the sciences and are looking to gain first-hand experience working in a laboratory environment, then the Bermuda Government’s Molecular Diagnostics Lab [MDL] is looking for you.

“The MDL is currently accepting applications for its Summer Student Volunteer Programme, which will run from July 4, through Saturday, September 4, 2021. The Bermuda Government Molecular Diagnostics Lab is the primary laboratory for the testing of SARS-CoV-2 [the virus that causes the Covid-19 disease] in Bermuda.

“Students will spend a total of two [2] weeks working alongside our current staff members.

“In addition to learning about the administrative functions of the lab and the beginning-to-end schematics of testing a specimen, students will also have a chance to explore the ideologies surrounding this pandemic.

“Interested students must submit the following to jtbascome@gov.bm: A one-page essay – double-spaced, size 12, Times New Roman.

“Including:

  • What are your career aspirations?
  • What have you learned during the Covid-19 pandemic?
  • What do you expect to gain from volunteering at MDL?

“The deadline for applications is June 27, 2021 at 5:00pm. See the attached e-flyer for more information.”
