Cycling: Robin Horsfield Returns To Competition
Robin Horsfield recently returned to cycling action in Quebec, Canada
A spokesperson said, “As Canada came out of a months-long lockdown of sport, Robin Horsfield was able to return to action in July.
“After gathering some first and second place finishes at regional races [at the Hardwood Hills weekly series and Kelso Conservation weekly series], Horsfield traveled to Quebec for national level competition.
“At Canada Cup #1, Horsfield finished in 30th place out of 43 entrants, and, after suffering a crash and mechanical 1.5 kms into Canada Cup #2, he was able to claw his way back to 34th position out of 45 entrants.”
“The context of results at the national level in Canada is important to understand,” notes Horsfield’s long-time coach Mark Brown.
“Participation in the elite race is earned and limited to Canada’s top cyclists. Robin took the line with Canada’s current U23 national champion, a former Olympian, and seven full time professional riders, not to mention participation from the top racers across our country.
“It’s been 20 months since Robin had a mass start race of this caliber – these results are a solid foundation from which to build. Robin’s chase back of 11 elite riders in the second Canada Cup, after losing almost two minutes to a crash, was remarkable. Most riders would’ve simply quit the race after losing the group that early in the race.”
The spokesperson said, “Horsfield has a few weeks of regional racing and training before provincial and national level races in late August and early September. He is currently residing in Guelph where he is earning his professional engineer designation.”
