The Bermuda National Athletics Association [BNAA] held an event today [July 10] to honour past Carifta athletes.
Donna Raynor, President of the BNAA, previously said: “This was an event that was going to be the start of the 2020 Carifta Games but we felt we still wanted to honour our past athletes even though the games were cancelled. We will have some of our athletes dating back to the 1970s [the first Carifta Games] right up to the last games held. Some of the athletes will run and some will walk.”
Athletes scheduled to take part included Terrance Armstrong, Dr. Stanley James, Juma Mouchette, Henry Stevens-Carty, Kyle Virgil, Michael Watson, Vivian Yearwood, Debbie Hunter, Eulanne Douglas, Nandi Woods, Kyrah Scraders, Allison Outerbridge, Gina Evans, Shar-Dae Whitter, Branwen Smith, Candy Williams, Florence Sharpe, Emma Williams, Sheena Simons-Moore, Jay Donawa, Bessie Horton, Sonya Smith and Brian Wellman.
Ms Raynor concluded, “We never want to forget our athletes who helped to shape the sport of track and field with some of them still giving back and assisting our up and coming athletes.”
