Daniel Augustus Headed For Next Florida Event
Bermudian golfer Daniel Augustus recently won a Moonlight Tour event in Florida, with his next challenge taking place at the Tallahassee Open with a 36-hole strokeplay event.
When asked how his passion for golf got started, Mr. Augustus told Bernews, “I started playing golf when I was three. My next door neighbor introduced me to it officially. Uncle JoeMoe Hayward. I will be forever grateful for my former neighbors. None of this would have happened if it wasn’t for them.
“My mother also tells a story about how I was playing golf before she or myself really knew what I was doing. Apparently as a toddler I would get a small stick, roll up paper balls, and I would try and hit it around the apartment. Once my neighbor took me to the course, it clicked for my mother that I was playing golf that entire time.
“I have so many people that encouraged me along the way and influenced me. First I’ve got to thank uncle JoeMoe. The Augustus family, R.I.P. to my grandfather John Holdipp II. All of my mother’s brothers; R.I.P. Uncle Keith and Uncle Greg, Cornell Bean, Dwayne Pearman, Kim Swan, Greg Swan, Alex Madeiros, Alan Linda, Eardley Jones, George Smith, Arthur Laselle, Shawn Knights, Apostle Denwiddie, Malcolm Gosling, Jerry Rivers, The Terry family, Clem Talbot.
“Every last person and more have played a tremendous role at some point in my life. They’ve all motivated me and help me to become a better individual, as well as helping my career.”
When asked about his plans for the future, both short-term and long-term, Mr. Augustus said, “I intended on playing Q-School but didn’t have the finances. Golf is a sport where if you want to play at the top level, you have to spend thousands of dollars to compete and practice at quality facilities consistently in order to prepare and become better.
“I can’t stop now, so my plans are to continue playing overseas and prepare for Monday Qualifiers and the APGA Tour this fall and winter as I won’t be doing the Korn Ferry Tour Q-School.
“My plans are to continue to play and train as I make steps to improve my game and obtain status on the PGA Tour. I will try and obtain PGA Tour status through playing PGA Tour and Korn Ferry Tour Monday Qualifiers, PGA Tour Latin America Q-school, and PGA Tour ForMe tour Q-school.
“I also need more sponsors, partners, and or funding for this to be possible. Without it I will be very limited, but that won’t stop me. I will continue to believe in my abilities and my time will come. I’m truly grateful and blessed to be able to do what I love for a living.
“I just hope I inspire others to go for what they believe in, and that no matter what it looks like, you can, through hard work, discipline, sacrifice and desire, be successful and happy.
“You’ve got to see it and believe it first and the rest will fall into place as long as you put the work in.”
That is fantastic news. Congrats Daniel.
This is awesome. I hope sponsors step forward to help this young man
