August 17, 2021

Changes to the Public Health Emergency Regulations will be announced tomorrow [Aug 18] and come into effect on Friday [Aug 20], the Government has announced.

This was included in tonight’s press statement which confirmed 52 new cases, with the island’s active cases increasing to 113, the highest since May.

There have been 147 new cases announced so far this month, which is around double the amount of cases that were announced in the previous two months — June and July — combined.

Minister of Health Kim Wilson said, “The Cabinet Committee for the Coronavirus met yesterday to consider recommendations to changes to Public Health Emergency Regulations given the increasing cases and positivity rates. The changes will be announced tomorrow and will come into effect on Friday.”

The current restrictions include aspects such as mask wearing, testing on arrival to the island, quarantine rules for unvaccinated people, and larger events have to get an exemption which generally requires the use of SafeKey.

Yet Government has just relaxed them. Don’t they know it takes at least 14 days to see the real picture? We’ve just had Cup Match, locally and all those who travelled, and the large group exemptions are a joke. Of course the numbers will go up, it’s not rocket science. Learn to live with Covid because it’s not going away soon, and lockdowns don’t work, all it does is create economic destruction. How can we fire Wilson and Burt?

    • question says:

Oh, Burt doesn’t worry about restrictions. Those things are just for us, the little people, his subjects.
If Burt fancies a champagne party with his rich friends with no masks, he goes ahead and does it. It’s us that are miserable, not him.

What do you expect when you allow sensless beach parties and wedding to be exempt. Asking for it……..

Unfortunately all of theses restrictions are going to have an adverse affect on a large portion of the populations health. What you are going to see as other parts of the world are is a rise in depression, anxiety, obesity, suicide and Parkinson disease. Please I encourage you to do your own research and take care of your mental and physical health. We are fighting against each other and being distracted to the real issues. The rules of divide and conquer is still valid today. Don’t settle for being a pawn.

I am not surprised at the increase in numbers 52 in three days now have Covid. When the Government said no masks necessary at Cup Match and also the crowds of young people on the beach over the holiday also it was unbelievable to see that in on Bernews that weekend. I agree that now the restrictions have to be put back for a short time to get a handle on the outbreak of this on our Island.

  6. Doctor Doctor says:

Covid will never go away and has already become a part of our ecosystem. It has already mutated into many forms which the vaccines cannot fully protect from, and will continue to mutate into newer forms. Fully vaccinated people can still catch Covid, can still spread it, and can still die from it (up to 5%)- and all its mutational forms. Not everyone can be vaccinated, yet some selfishly act like that is not medically true. It is also our human right to deny a vaccine if we dont want it. Vaccinated people spread covid just as much as unvaccinated. This myth that being vaccinated makes you less likely to spread it is propaganda. You get less sick, there is nothing stopping you from transferring or holding germs in your skin, clothes, lungs, etc.
