Reports Of Tools Been Stolen From Vehicles
The police have advised people who store tools in their work vehicles “to mark them clearly with your name / company name,” noting that there have been “number of reports of tools having been stolen from vehicles in recent times.”
A police spokesperson said, “There have been a number of reports of tools having been stolen from vehicles in recent times.
“The Bermuda Police Service advises contractors and other individuals who store tools in their work vehicles if you have to leave tools in a van overnight, it’s a good idea to mark them clearly with your name / company name and address using paint pens and seal with a clear lacquer spray.
“Items that are clearly marked are less desirable and more difficult to sell on. Consider using a lockable cabinet within your van to store tools or, you can also take photographs of items of value. Make a note of the serial numbers.
“Should you be approached by individuals offering tools for sale, you should ask for proof of ownership.
“If you suspect the items are stolen, you should contact 211 or the main police number, 295-0011 and provide a description of the person selling the items as well as the items being offered for sale.
“Under the Criminal Code Act 1907, ‘A person guilty of handling stolen goods shall be liable on summary conviction to a fine of $10,000 or to imprisonment for five years or both; and on conviction on indictment to a fine of $15,000 or imprisonment for fourteen years, or both.”
