Staffing Shortages, Garbage Collection Delays
[Updated] “Due to staffing shortages, garbage collection will be impacted over the next few weeks,” the Ministry has advised.
A Government spokesperson said, “The Ministry of Public Works advise that due to staffing shortages garbage collection will be impacted over the next few weeks.
“The public is reminded that they may deliver household garbage to the Tynes Bay Waste to Energy Facility, which is open daily from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm daily.
“The Ministry of Public Works wishes to thank the public for their patience and apologizes in advance for any inconvenience.”
While not implicitly stated, it is likely this is yet another service impacted by the record high active Covid cases, as with over 1500 currently active, thousands more in quarantine, parents having challenges as public school buildings are not open as remote learning is in place, multiple services are being affected.
Update 8.14pm: A Government spokesperson said, “The Ministry of Public Works advises that staffing shortages may impact garbage collection over the next few weeks.
“Residential waste collection will continue; however, it is impossible to guarantee service every day under the current conditions. Depending on the staffing level on a given day, it will be challenging to maintain services, which may result in some residential garbage going uncollected.
“Should this occur, the Ministry will advise the public and do its utmost to restore regular residential collection as soon as possible.
“As a reminder, household garbage may be delivered to the Tynes Bay Waste to Energy Facility, which is open daily from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm.
“The Ministry of Public Works wishes to thank the public for their patience and apologizes in advance for any inconvenience.”
How strange that the Covid issue is Monday to Friday but goes away on Saturday when pay is time and a half. Where is the management to stop this stupidly? Tax payers have had enough of this BS.
Amazing isn’t it. I noticed that too !
Do you hear yourself? So you’re saying that this current situation revolves around overtime?. Shows how narrow minded and stupid you are. So if an establishment is affected by covid, all the staff should still come to work. Clearly you think the trash collectors are immune to covid.
Have they advised the effective security personnel at the Tynes Bay drop off that they should allow intermediate and even heavy truck to drop off garbage?
Don’t want to put garbage in my car when it can be taken with the commercial vehice.
The guys there turn you back unless it is a light van.
