Garbage Collection Delays: Monday & Tuesday

September 13, 2021

“The west end will experience delays in garbage collection today and tomorrow,” the Government said this evening [Sept 13], adding that “residents are asked to leave Monday’s garbage out as collections are scheduled to commence at 7:30am on the main roads.”

In a statement issued late this evening, a spokesperson said, “The Ministry of Public Works and the Department of Works and Engineering advise that the west end will experience delays in garbage collection today and tomorrow. Due to a disruption in the labour force, revolving around the current Covid public health guidelines, outside agencies will assist with residential garbage collection.

“The Corporation of Hamilton and other private waste collection agencies will begin collecting residential garbage as per the regular collection schedule. Residents are asked to leave Monday’s garbage out as collections are scheduled to commence at 7:30am on the main roads.

“As a reminder, household garbage may also be delivered to the Tynes Bay Waste to Energy Facility, which will be open daily from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm.

“The Ministry of Public Works wishes to thank the public for their patience and apologizes for any inconvenience.”

  1. Question says:

And this is why the island is overrun with rats.

    • Marine Life says:

Very true! I see rats all the time, at my job, around my house , running across streets at times, and occasionally road pizza. Vacationers get away from the cities and rats in places just to come to ‘Paradise’ and find more rats! Not good.
The one day per week trash collection got the rats going more, now debacles causing no pickup is tipping the scales the wrong way.

“Due to a disruption in the labour force, revolving around the current Covid public health guidelines, outside agencies will assist with residential garbage collection”

And yet what I read is the BIU has realised its rolling labour stoppages because of a power struggle within the PLP is illegal so now it has invented another reason to withdraw labour

    • wahoo says:

So the taxpayer is getting dinged twice….thanks BIU you really are team players.

  3. Sandgrownan says:

    Why?

  4. Trash Collector says:

…Because we are human too! Use your common sense… like DUH.. ‘COVID health guidelines” do you need a special notice in picture form for you to understand whats going on here? COMMON SENSE IS NO LONGER COMMON

    • Bay Girl says:

THANK YOU!!!! People are so quick to think negative of the workers in this section. Of course the release has been put out to cause some confusion purposely to deflect the real facts! Sick and tired of it!!!!

    • taxpayer says:

You do know we are all facing the same issues. This country is broke, do you expect to be paid for Monday and Tuesday?

      • Trash Collector says:

Ok oh High & Mighty One, Do you want people going to work with COVID at your job? Let us know so we can send you all the positive cases and see how far you get! You don’t get blessed with that lack of compassion. Remember what the lord says about those who think they are first, for you will surely be last when he comes! & all those you speak down upon shall be first! News flash: WE PAY TAXES TOO! You’re not that great!

    • wahoo says:

I don’t think you are a trash collector.

      • Trash Collector says:

I wonder why you would even say that, one could only assume. I don’t think you are a wahoo! But yet, that’s your name. hmmm

        • wahoo says:

Mmmmm…still not sure that you are a trash collector. You are right though I am not really a wahoo.

  5. Question says:

Wednesday. Trash out since Monday, and still not picked up. This is one of the reasons why the island is overrun with rats.
What is going on? Why have no updates been issued?

  6. Fisherman says:
