Minister Furbert Visits The Community Team
The Minister of Social Development and Seniors Tinee Furbert recently had the opportunity to visit the Community Intellectual Disabilities Team to “discuss their newly launched services for intellectual disability clients and their families at home.”
Minister Furbert said, “I am grateful for the opportunity to have met with the Community Intellectual Disability Team, learn more about their services, and tour their new working space at Montrose Cottage.
“Persons over the age of 18 with intellectual disabilities, through the Community Intellectual Disability Team, will have access to community-based nursing, psychological/behavioral support, vocational/rehabilitation support, occupational therapy, speech-language pathology, and physiotherapy.
Minister Furbert added, “When Bermuda expands community outreach services, we empower individuals to live a better quality of life. We also create an opportunity for a shift in mindset towards those with intellectual disabilities as they work on maximizing their independence in the community. The services being offered will help us to keep our finger ‘on the pulse’ and potentially prevent crisis situations.
“Well done to the Bermuda Hospitals Board and the Community Intellectual Disability Team. For those who may be interested in learning more inquiries and referrals can be made via telephone at 249-3807, email at cidt@bhb.bm or tenik.burgess@bhb.bm, or in person at Montrose Cottage, 7 Point Finger Road, Paget, PG05.”
