Video: ‘Taking Off’ Highlights Jalicia Crockwell
Skyport has released the latest episode of ‘Taking Off’, a video series with host Mikaela Pearman that highlights the airport, with this episode a part of their new series ‘Inside LF Wade’ and featuring Jalicia Crockwell, the only woman to drive the push back.
Speaking in the episode, Mikaela Pearman said, “This week, we bring you another episode in our new series Inside LF Wade. We are featuring Jalicia Crockwell, a ramp supervisor with Menzies Aviation. Jalicia is the only woman to drive the push back, as in she pushes the air crafts back from the gate before they take off.”
Ms Crockwell said, “A ramp supervisor is the person who basically supervises the flights and runs the flights while it’s on the ground. Before you flight actually lands and taxis up to the gate, you have to make sure that your gate is set up.
“Then once the flight is on the ground you manage the bags coming of the flight and then they have to be taken to arrival, you manage that, and then you manage your bags coming out of bag room to put on your flight. And once the flight is closed out. You’re able to let the ramp agent know, which will be your ops and they’re able to let you know if you can close out and push back.
“I started in 2017 as a cleaner just part time and then I moved to the ramp with the boys in 2018, and I’ve just been here ever since. I don’t know exactly how I became a ramp supervisor, I was actually volunteered by my other co-workers. They needed another ramp supervisor and my name was put forward and I just decided to take on the position.
“The most interesting part of my job is the fact that I can actually push back a plane. Aircrafts are very delicate even though they seem very big and heavy, they’re very delicate and the fact that I’m trusted to push back one of these is the best part of my job.”
Congratulations and wishing you much success.
Well done Jalicia!! Queen power all the way to whatever level of success you desire luv!
And don’t forget to do your walk around BEFORE every departure,it’s Imperative that you do this you may be able to spot something the co pilot or Captain could’ve missed all the best from one Former Menzies Trainer/Supervisor at MCO and also a Bermudian to another, here’s wishing you all the very best.
