5 Positive Tests In Back-To-School Screenings
[Written by Don Burgess]
Five people have tested positive in the back-to-school screenings so far.
A Ministry of Education spokesperson told Bernews 12 schools had been tested with four positive cases amongst students and one for staff.
Schools included are Gilbert Institute, Port Royal Primary, West Pembroke, Prospect Primary, Purvis Primary, East End Primary, Success Academy Roberts Avenue, St Paul’s Preschool, Victor Scott Preschool, Southampton Preschool, and Lagoon Park Preschool.
Last week, Education Minister Diallo Rabain said, it is out of health concerns that students and staff have to be tested before schools reopen for in-person learning, saying: “I reiterate that we all need to do what is best for the safety of our entire school population. It is a given that knowing your Covid status before returning to school is something all of us should want to know.”

Kudos to Gov for standing firm on school testing. It boggles the mind to think that there are parents that don’t want to know if their child may be positive. Who are these people?
Perhaps this would have been better off being done when the kids retuned to school after the summer holidays… so no credit to govt. lives were lost and could have been avoided. The govt should have take preventative steps and not reacted when it was too late.
To all the parents that don’t want their children tested, let me put it this way… If you don’t want your child tested, fine, then your child stays at home. It’s not fair to me as a grandparent, for your child to infect my grandchildren and then they in turn bring the virus to my home and infect me.
Are you vaccinated? If so, why are you worried about children, whom are the lowest risk level from this virus, infecting you? It’s ridiculous that so many people are pushing this school testing when the same group of people in the school are the same group you will come into contact with everywhere in public, i.e. in the grocery store, in church. This obsession with holding schools hostage is nonsensical.
And frankly, these parents who may not want the testing are still taxpayers whose hard earned money is funding these schools, so they have every right to have access to these facilities and services without being threatened to have schooling withheld from their children.
Well said
Bollocks. If they increase the risk of others, keep them at home.
But when will government confirm how often the kids will be tested?
This isn’t unexpected, is it?
Children should get tested weekly. My grandchild has been going to the Youth Centers program for the past few weeks and HAS to do a saliva test every Saturday. No harm No Foul, Rather safe than sorry…..
Should get tested? Perhaps some parents are not okay with the testing for personal reasons. To suggest weekly tests for small children – under age 13 – is shameful. If you think it is normal or okay to subject your grandchild to this nonsense, then good for you. They probably belong in a school, where they can learn to have a better worldview and not to make global statements that can be harmful to others.
“They probably belong in a school, where they can learn to have a better worldview and not to make global statements that can be harmful to others.”
You should heed your own advice…right now, you just look like an ignorant hypocrite.
“Scientists were left stunned after they discovered a natural Covid antibody that seems to neutralise multiple Coronavirus variants.
The ‘potent’ antibody was reportedly found in a 45-year old man who recovered from Covid-19 more than three months ago.
One of the antibodies, labelled as ‘54042-4’, seemed to be able to halt multiple mutations, including the Delta and Alpha variants.”
