BNG & Goslings Holiday Wrapping Paper Contest

October 20, 2021

The Bermuda National Gallery and Goslings Rum will be holding their second annual Holiday Wrapping Paper Design Competition, with the winners of each category to receive a cash prize of $500.

A spokesperson said, “Artists and designers – both professional and amateur – are invited to submit designs for a holiday inspired wrapping paper which will be produced in time for the upcoming festive season and sold at the Goslings Dundonald and Front Street stores and via the Bermuda National Gallery website.

“This year, in celebration of the launch of Gosling’s Flora Duffy Rum and in honor of Bermuda’s newest national holiday, we ask designers to take inspiration from Flora Duffy’s historic success as Bermuda’s first Olympic gold medal winner.”

Goslings Rum Brand Director, Andrew Holmes, said, “Flora Duffy’s historic Olympic gold medal win is a monumental achievement that has brought about a sense of pride and unity especially in a time when the island is experiencing hardship.

“We’re excited to be teaming up once again with the BNG and believe this initiative will enable artists to showcase their creative talents through celebrating one of our very own.”

The spokesperson said, “The competition will begin on Tuesday, October 19 to honor the declaration of a new national holiday, Flora Duffy Day.

“There are two age categories: 18-25 and 25 and over. There is a cash prize of $500 for each category. Both winners will also receive a private tour and rum tasting for up to 10 friends at the Bermuda National Gallery, a BNG membership and 10 sheets of wrapping paper.

“In addition to this, the winner of 18-25 category will receive a Bermuda National Gallery mentorship, which includes meeting with local art and design professionals and the opportunity to be involved in upcoming BNG exhibition design as well as a Goslings Rum Mentorship in Brand Development, giving the winner an insight into how Goslings maintains and advances their brand identity.”

Peter Lapsley, Executive Director for the Bermuda National Gallery, said, “BNG are excited to be collaborating once again with Goslings on their Holiday wrapping paper competition and especially in celebration of Flora Duffy’s historic Olympic victory.

“Bermuda’s creative community really came to the wicket in 2020 and we are excited to see how this year’s submissions find inspiration in Flora’s epic and impactful career.”

The spokesperson said, “The two winning designs will be featured in the windows of the Goslings Front Street store and on both the Bermuda National Gallery and Goslings Rum social media platforms.

“The deadline for entry is 5pm on Monday, November 1. The winners will be announced on Monday, November 8.”
