Butterfield Bermuda Championship Day Three
Taylor Pendrith currently sits at 17-under par, he has a three-stroke lead heading into the Championship Field Round of the Butterfield Bermuda Championships going on at the Port Royal Golf Course.
Pendrith shot a third-round 65 to tie the tournament record for a low 54-hole score, set by Harry Higgs in 2019. Add his course and tourney-record 61 yesterday to it and Pendrith now owns the lowest back-to-back rounds score as well at 126, besting the mark of 129 set by Brendon Todd in 2019.
Danny Lee is three strokes back at 199 while Lucas Herbert is four back of the leader. Patrick Rodgers (-12) and Vincent Whaley (-12) are five shots back at -12.
However, not giving back the Trophy yet is the defending champion Brian Gay who posted the low round of the day, matching Ben Kohles as each carded a 64. Gay, who made the cut at even-par, had a bogey-free round with seven birdies.
Following his round, Pendrith said, “For whatever reason, it is hard to follow up a low one with another low one, but I’ve been hitting it really nicely and just had to stay patient today.
“I hit some really nice shots early and didn’t make a birdie until I think 8. Had a good look on 1, a good look on 2, and just had to be really patient and knew I was going to get on a run at some point during the round. Was able to get four in a row and kind of really jump-start the round.”
