Concert, Stamp Reveal, Stadium Naming & More

October 16, 2021

Some of the events scheduled for the Flora Duffy Day holiday on Monday [Oct 18] include a commemorative stamp reveal, the Flora Duffy Stadium re-naming, a Flora Duffy Tribute Concert & Reception, a breakfast to honour Flora Duffy and a photo shoot at the soon to be renamed Corkscrew Hill.

This is according to various large group exemptions issued, as stated within the official notices, as well as a traffic advisory issued by the Government, and follow after the motorcade held to welcome Ms Duffy — Bermuda’s first Olympic gold medalist — home.

The official notice for the breakfast to honour Flora Duffy permits a “gathering of 58 persons to assemble for the purposes of Breakfast to Honour Flora Duffy on 18 October 2021 at 8:00am to 10:30am, at The Pickled Onion Restaurant, 53 Front Street, City of Hamilton.”

The official notice for the Flora Duffy Tribute Concert & Reception permits a “gathering of 199 persons to assemble for the purposes of Flora Duffy Tribute Concert and Reception on 18 October 2021 at 10:00am to 6:00pm, at Victoria Park, Victoria Street, City of Hamilton.”

The official notice for the Flora Duffy Stadium permits a “gathering of 50 persons to assemble for the purposes of Flora Duffy Stadium Naming on 18th October 2021 at 1pm to 3pm, at National Sports Center, 65 Roberts Avenue, Devonshire.”

The official notice for the Flora Duffy Commemorative Stamp Reveal permits a “gathering of 100 persons to assemble for the purposes of Flora Duffy Commemorative Stamp Reveal on 18 October 2021 at 2:15pm to 3:30pm, at the General Post Office, 56 Church Street, City of Hamilton.”

The Government has also announced that there will be a road closure on Corkscrew Hill in Devonshire for the Flora Duffy Photo Shoot on Monday, October 18 between 12.30pm and 1.45pm.

The exemptions all come with the standard conditions such as the use of Safekey, and all details can be read on the relevant links provided above.

The Government has previously said “that all public facing events will be strictly in keeping with the current health and safety guidelines in place,” and indicated that the Government media will be allowed to cover the events and some will be streamed on the Government media and those “not live streamed will be recorded and aired via CITV.”

Update 5.59pm: The Government has emailed to ask us to note the events — which were included in the official notices — are by invitation only. If they send a proper statement about the events, we will update accordingly.
