Photos & Video: Poppy Display At St Paul’s
In order to mark Remembrance Day and pay tribute to veterans, the Bermuda Boys’ Brigade and the Church Girls’ Brigade created over 600 poppies out of plastic bottles for an installation at the St. Paul’s Church in Paget.
A spokesperson told Bernews, “Every year the leaders teach our Brigaders to remember that we owe our freedoms to our war veterans and to be grateful for their sacrifices.
“We often include a craft. Since we were unable to meet in person until two weeks ago, the Brigades met online. Each made their own videos showing our Brigade families how to create the 10 poppies which each member was challenged to make by the end of October. This also served as a lesson about recycling.
“Starting in August, we appealed to the church, family, friends and the community to save empty plastic bottles for us. The support was amazing.”
“It has been gratifying to receive so many positive responses from people who have expressed their thanks and shared how meaningful and touching the display is for them. Most people didn’t realize that the Ppoppies were made from plastic bottles.
“The Brigade boys, girls, families and leaders are proud of what we have accomplished together and at the Remembrance Sunday service at St. Paul’s on November 14, we will pray for all the Vveterans and their families.
“Our Brigade Chaplain, Canon Anthony Petitt has invited us to leave the display up for the whole month – he said “November is a month of remembering”. Lest we forget.”
