Queen’s Green Canopy Tree Planting Initiative
Preparations are underway for tomorrow’s tree planting as part of The Queen’s Green Canopy initiative, Government House said.
Government House posted the photos below online, saying, “This initiative was created to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022 and invites people from across the UK and the world to “Plant a Tree for the Jubilee”.
“Members of the Bermuda Botanical Society and the Government House Parks Team have planned, cleared, prepared and donated trees ready for the volunteers who will be planting 70 trees to celebrate Her Majesty’s 70 years of service tomorrow. The area was previously overgrown with invasive tree species such as Brasilian/ Mexican Pepper and Chinese Fan Palms.”
The Governor said: “My family and I are very much looking forward to welcoming everyone to Government House to help in the creation of a new native and endemic canopy on Government House grounds in honour of Her Majesty.
“Our thanks to those in the community who are volunteering their time to assist with the planting and to those who have donated native/endemic plants.
“The planting of trees is a simple and effective way to help reduce the impact of carbon emissions and restore natural ecosystems, as well as fostering native species and fauna on Bermuda. I encourage all residents to do their part in the fight against climate change.”
