ABIC Appoints Seven People To Board

The Association of Bermuda International Companies [ABIC] announced seven appointments to its Board of Directors, two of whom are past recipients of ABIC Education Awards. The new slate of directors was confirmed at ABIC’s Annual General Meeting, which was held virtually.

A spokesperson said, “Cyril Whitter, President and CEO of Independent Management Limited, rejoins the board as ABIC’s first honorary board member. Mr. Whitter will continue the work he has done leading ABIC’s communications on the value of international business and the careers the sector offers.

“Others appointed to the ABIC Board of Directors for 2022 are:

“Louise Twiss West, the Head of Wholesale Banking at HSBC Bermuda. Ms West joined HSBC in 2006, where she held several senior positions in corporate banking, including Head of the Financial Institutions Group, responsible for a dedicated team handling global business development and risk management for a portfolio of re/insurance clients.

“Chantal Cardinez, the CEO of Hannover Re [Bermuda] Ltd, a dual licence Class 4 and Class E reinsurer. She is responsible for Hannover Re Group’s Property Catastrophe centre of excellence. After starting her professional career in South Africa and the UK, Ms Cardinez moved to Bermuda in 2006. She joined Hannover Life Reassurance Bermuda Ltd in 2008 and has since established and grown its international portfolio of structured reinsurance solutions.

“Philip Vandoninck is the CEO of Fidelis’ Bermuda office, as well as the CEO of Socium, Fidelis’ third-party capital arm. In this role, Mr. Vandoninck oversees all forms of risk transfer to third parties, whether on an ILS, rated quota share, cat bond or other structure type basis. Before joining Fidelis, he started off his tenure with Hiscox in his native country of Belgium. After the 2005 hurricane season, Mr. Vandoninck was part of a team of five to establish Hiscox Bermuda.

“Robert Moncrieff is the Global Insurance International and Transactions Tax Services Leader for EY and the Economic Substance and BEPS Leader for the BBC region of The Bahamas, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands and Cayman Islands. He established UK Tax Desks in Boston and Chicago and is a frequent advisor on insurance tax matters and BEPS.

“Dominique Richardson is a Senior Underwriter in the Financial Lines team at Markel Bermuda Ltd. A graduate of The Berkeley Institute, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with a major in Finance, with cum laude honours, from Barry University. She won scholarships from BFIS, ABIC, Appleby and The Bank of Bermuda [now HSBC] and went on to obtain a master’s degree in finance, with distinction, at Nottingham Trent University. Ms Richardson came through the Graduate Trainee Program at Chubb where she rose to Underwriter, and joined Markel in January 2021.

“Travis Trott is the Finance Manager at Athene Life Re Bermuda and has nearly 10 years of experience within the international sector, primarily in property & casualty and life re/insurance. A registered Chartered Accountant in Bermuda and the United States, Mr. Trott previously held roles with Deloitte and Chubb. A past ABIC Education Awards recipient, he holds The Associate, Life Management Institute designation as well as a Bachelor of Science [Honours] in Accounting and Finance from the University of the West of England, Bristol.

“Stepping down from the board are Cora McLaren, of HSBC; Thomas Olunloyo, of Legal & General; Vivienne Moniz, of AXA XL; and David Brown, of EY.”
