International Women’s Club Donates To Charity

December 20, 2021

The International Women’s Club selected two Bermuda charities associated with women’s health, food/nutrition, and family life as recipients for its annual giving campaign.

“The Women’s Resource Centre [WRC] received a grant of $9,000 for women at the, soon to be opened, Transformational Living Centre for Families [TLC] for their Education and Life Skills training program,” a spokesperson said.

“The TLC is a purpose-designed housing complex on Parson’s Road in Pembroke [the former Pembroke Rest Home] that will help to address the growing needs of homeless mothers and their children.

IWC president Jessica Ray presented a cheque for $9,000 in support of the new Transformational Living Centre to WRC’s Elaine Butterfield and Tina Laws

“This gift will allow us to support and provide tools to women and their families, who are underperforming in life and enable them to not just survive but to thrive,” said Elaine Butterfield, the outgoing Executive Director.

“The Education and Life Skills Program is designed to provide these women with the necessary education and life skills to help support and enable them to move forward with strength, confidence and stability, after they exit the TLC, thereby equipping them and their families with the best chance possible for a sustainable and productive life.

A further $2,600 was donated to the Bermuda Diabetes Association for their educational program, specifically providing cooking demonstrations and helping mothers to select and make fun, nutritious meals that are economically within reach and that children and families will learn to love.

The grant will support Bermuda Diabetes Association in striving to prevent type 2 diabetes in those at risk and for those with diabetes, to manage it successfully and prevent the devasting complications,” Executive Director Kim Day said.
