Minister: “Omicron Variant Is Spreading Quickly”

December 17, 2021

“The Omicron variant is spreading quickly,” Minister of Health Kim Wilson has warned as the island’s active cases increase to 62, more than double the amount there were earlier this month.

The Government confirmed the first case of Omicron on December 7th, and as of the most recent statistics, as far as the 47 active cases where typing is available, the Ministry said 34% [16] are Delta and 60% [31] are Omicron.

In releasing the most recent test results, the Minister said, “The Omicron variant is spreading quickly, and now is not the time to let our guard down, now is the time to be extra cautious. Our health and safety depends on being vaccinated [including getting your booster if eligible], wearing masks, physical distancing, proper ventilation and really good hand hygiene. We must do it all.

“As the World Health Organization warned this week, the Omicron variant is spreading at a rate we have not seen with any previous variant. The coronavirus thrives on human contact, and as we head into the holiday season, we must continue to follow public health guidance.”

  1. question says:

“Our health and safety depends on being vaccinated [including getting your booster if eligible”, according to the minister.

And yet it is not possible to get a booster. The website shows no appointments at all.

  2. otrwele says:

Yeah and remember all being imported and spred by the majority of vaccinated persons. Go figure

  3. Nicky says:

Good day it is not not possible to get a booster until January. Please change this and allow more bookings now! Don’t wait!

    • Busybee says:

The statement they made “The Minister said the vaccination drive was taking a temporary break over the holidays so that those involved can get a break” could not come at a worse time when it is most needed! They should be working around the clock, 7 days a week giving boosters for the next week, otherwise it will be too late!

    • Question says:

“The most important thing you can do is get a booster right away” they said.

And then the close down the booster clinics, making it impossible to get one.

  4. Joe Bloggs says:

“The Omicron variant is spreading quickly, and now is not the time to let our guard down, now is the time to be extra cautious”

But now is not the time to tighten the Regulations either, so we use the honour system.

Apparently making money is more important than the health of the public, at least that is the message I am getting from the PLP Government

    • Otrwele says:

I guess your one if those that money isn’t an issue because your still able to work remotely. Selfish fool! Why don’t you pay me the wage I make rather then a measley $300 – 500 government handout that puts me further in debt because it’s not enough to live in this country!! Then maybe I’ll stay home.

      • Joe Bloggs says:

I am one of those who prefers life over death, not only for myself but for my children and grandchildren.

People like you have been complaining about the cost of living in Bermuda for as long as I can remember. If you don’t like it here, do as so many disaffected Bermudians have done before, leave.

  5. Allan says:

For once the comments are valid. After listening to the Minister of Health, Ms. Wilson, I have registered to get the Flu Vaccine, (Sat at National Station).
That is good, however, tried to make a booking for the Booster for myself (70yrs) and my wife (64) and nothing available at any location JAN FEB MAR nor never.

    What’s up with that?

Very dissappointed after all the hype, I only hesitated getting the booster as was worried about a reaction to it, as several people felt slightly ill afterwards.

But, this is a whole of stress I do not need right now.

  6. Warrior says:

    Symptoms associated with Omicron please.
