Police Confirm Death Of Man Following Collision

[Updated: The police have now confirmed the very sad news that a 26-year-old man has died, marking the seventeenth road fatality this year in Bermuda.]

A motorcycle rider has been transported to hospital following a three vehicle collision on Palmetto Road at around 5.45pm today [Dec 25] and one driver — who initially left the scene — was arrested.

A police spokesperson said, “Around 5:45p.m. today, Saturday 25th December, 2021, Police and other first responders were dispatched to a reported three vehicle road traffic collision involving a car and two motorcycles, on Palmetto Road, Pembroke, just east of the junction with Bishop Spencer Road.

“One of the motorcycle riders, a male, sustained head, groin and serious leg injuries. He was transported via ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, where he is currently being attended to for his injuries. There were no other reported injured persons.

“Traffic is being diverted as Traffic Collision Investigators along with officers from the Forensic Support Unit are currently processing the scene.

“An update will be provided as and when we are able to.”

Update 8.52pm: The police said, “The collision mentioned earlier, involved two motorcars cars and a bike and not two bikes and a car as previously stated.

“Neither of the motorcar drivers were injured. However one of them, a thirty-five year old male left the scene of the collision.

“He was subsequently located at a private residence on Middle Road in Devonshire, where he was arrested and taken to the Hamilton Police Station.

“The victim, a twenty-six year old male continues to receive treatment at hospital. Traffic is still being diverted away from the scene which remains closed at this time.”

Update 9.20pm: The police have now confirmed the very sad news that a 26-year-old man has died.

A police spokesperson said, “Sadly, the 26 year old male injured in this evening’s collision on Palmetto Road, Pembroke has succumbed to his injuries, at hospital.

“This marks the seventeenth road fatality this year in Bermuda. No further information will be provided until all next of kin have been informed.

“Anyone with information on this collision which occurred around 5:45 p.m. today, Saturday 25th December, 2021 on Palmetto Road, Pembroke, east of the junction with Bishop Spencer Road and involved two motorcars and a bike, is asked to call 211 or the main police number 295-0011.
