  1. Question says:

Does Burt still live here, or has he moved away as well?

  2. IslandChild says:

Dr Weldon, thank you for all you’ve done for Bermuda during these unprecedented times.
    May your future be bright.

    • St. David's says:

      Hear, hear.

Dr. Weldon, kudos for how you served your country, navigated unbelievable red tape and the chasms of government, allowing Bermuda to be an example globally.

      • saud says:

Bermuda is a global example of racism, homophobia and xenophobia.

        • sandgrownan says:

          Hear hear.

        • Expat says:

Jaja you definitely haven’t visited my home country the USA if you think your Island is racist. Bermuda is a gem and many of you don’t appreciate it until you see how other people around the world are living.

Try walking around 2am in the Caribbean as a white male.

          • PBanks says:

Since we’re talking about avoiding generalities and so on, can you specify where in the Caribbean?

And also, why walking alone at 2am as a white male is different than walking along as a person of different ethnicity or gender?

            • Real Deal says:

PBanks you know what he is saying unless you live under a rock. its not hard to understand.

Expat my brother Bermuda will shine even brighter once more as soon as God’s herb is legalize on these shores and MaaT is restored
Bermuda is the seed of Atlantis aka the 3rd eye of the world but we are calcified right now

however Thoth has awaken it is just a matter of time

          • Lance says:

            Smh who is this doof?

          • saud says:

Expat, That’s cute, you’re from ‘merica and you feel oppressed. LOL

Try growing up in Bermuda as a gay white male.

            Preach elsewhere, please.

        • mixitup says:

Clearly you have never left these shores.

  3. Thank you!!!!! says:

Thank you for your service. You went above and beyond.

Too bad the government went on an extended vacation when we had the most infectious variant to date and massive testing requirements. They were too busy to sign for a few more staff to help on at the lab. Instead long lines at testing stations and the airport with furious visitors and students to trying to get back to school but oops missed their flights after hours of waiting on the Covid line and no results.

Not too worry, they needed a break (the Premier, Deputy Premier, Health Minister and the National Security minister), no break for Dr. Weldon and no staff!! She should have been Dame Weldon, where would we have been without her!!!

    • agreeeee says:

so so true words, usually in times such as these they in most jurisdictions come to the front to lead. Not here. You sign on to be a politician its a 24 x 7 x 365 and you take your lumps along with the accolades. But only if its the truth

  4. Jay says:

This is big, she has done a great job and what she is saying is you are not giving me the resources, and that reflects poorly on the arrogant Burt and his anonymous crew.

How about an election now David? Try 6-30. Lost it.

    • White Wash says:

You can’t be that stupid! Their friends and family always vote plp. How dumb are you?

      • Roy says:

Based on incompetence and the country in a complete mess you would like Burt to resign or at least have the party oust him.

Anti-PLP sentiment is very high right now, they won’t call an election of course and yes there are idiots here who only vote on apparent racial lines – black and white, but I think its a fair point. The ramifications of all this are far reaching.

If only the OBA could sort their act out.

        • Toodle-oo says:

“If only the OBA could sort their act out.”

Regrettably ,those people who vote on racial lines that you mention are actually those who will never vote for a party perceived (as incorrect as it may be) as ‘white’ .
They worked long and hard to make that clear and they’re never going to change. It’s PLP or nothing.

          • Mixitup says:

^^^ Just look at this statement >>>
“Those people who vote on racial lines are actually those who will never vote for a party perceived as “White”.

I think you know that your statement is factually incorrect, and actually the opposite takes place.

            • LOL (original) says:

No they are right I am white I have oted for both parties most if not all friends black none have ever voted anyhing other than plp. This is a falicy promoted to keep a populaion of people in lock step. Dems do the same to their members

            • Double S says:

No it is not ‘factually incorrect.’ The evidence to back up their statement can be found throughout the PLP’s existence. For instance, I guarantee you that you have never ever even considered voting for a non-PLP entity.

As I asked below, what has improved the lives of all Bermudians under the PLP’s near quarter of a century reign?

        • White Wash says:

“There are idiots here who only vote on apparent racial lines – black and white ”

The OBAUBP is a white party and the PLPBIU is a black party that has always been the case. If you dig a little deeper it’s as clear as daylight that black Bermudians are the only race that swings between both parties. White Bermuda only votes one-way!!

          • LOL (original TM*) says:

That’s ridiculous ask your self who you’ve voted for same party right? I’m white and have voted for both parties. Can you say the same? Out of a quick study between me and friend almost all black they have only every voted for the same party I the “white boy” was the only one that had voted for both parties. Just don’t believe nonsense like this. It’s right up there with black people not being able to be racist. Problem is power comes in many forms.

LOL keep up the BS really helping the country as a whole ….

            • iyiyi says:

              LOL ( original TM )
Agreed ! Same with me , I have voted both parties as a white Bermudian

The next election i will vote purely strategically just to try to even up the numbers in the house because this government is taking us down now. Hopefully we will have some qualified independents running !!

            • White Wash says:

Now you’re being as ridiculous as your statement. How do you really think the UBP/OBA won all these years? Why do you really think Cole Simmons is leader over the Milk Man! They need a black face!!!!!

Black Bermudians control the fate of every election because they swing vote and have the majority. The only reason the OBA won the last election is because many blacks bda didn’t vote.

              • LOL (original) says:

So what your saying is that is their fualt why we are in the mess where in. Thanks for the clarity.

                Lol

            • JAWS says:

LOLOLOLOLOLOL you can’t be serious LMAO. This fool saying that brown people only vote plp.

“almost all black they have only every voted for the same party I the “white boy” was the only one that had voted for both parties”

              • Mixitup says:

Leave him, so statistically he’s the 6% of White Bermuda who votes PLP. VS the 20-30% of Black Bermuda who votes for UBP/OBA. smh…… to say Delusional would be giving him credit.

                • LOL (original) says:

Guess your in the both as everyone votes?

                • Double S says:

Did you ever think that is because both parties pander for the black vote whilst one simply hates the white population since their inception as a political party? And don’t play dumb, as I can provide with numerous hateful rhetoric by PLP representatives (elected or not) and their supporters. Hell I can even use your own quotes on this website to prove my point.

Bt either way, please highlight what facet of Bermuda has improved under a PLP regime over the last approximate quarter of a century?

          • saud says:

I wonder how the OBA ever won, with a black majority populace.

            • Ray says:

              We stayed home that year!!

              • Sandgrownan says:

If only you’d stayed at home in 2017, we wouldn’t be in this mess.

You get what you vote for, and you apparently voted for incompetence, failure and indifference.

  5. Sad says:

We need to find out why and ask her to stay.

    • Question says:

We know why. She has high standards, and the utter b sheet here stopped her from doing her job effectively. This government doesn’t understand high standards and getting things done. The government is all about excuses and mediocrity. Look at Wilson.

    • comfortably numb says:

Pretty clear why she resigned: Blurt and Wilson ignored her advice on many occasions. Why hire an expert if you aren’t prepared to listen to them? The arrogance of Blurt knows no limits.

  6. Observer says:

Unbelievable yet again. No resources at a time like this. Is the PLP Government not seeing anymore? And where are the backbenchers that make a noise occasionally? Can’t wait for the next bi-annual canvass visit. Oh by the way….The public be brainwashed again at the next Covid press briefing.

  7. Bluebridge says:

    Thank you Dr Weldon.

  8. OK, Then says:

Sorry, Burt, Wilson, Ming and Company, your Hot Air balloon is loosing air quickly now, as you let the people of this island down dramatically with the loss of this valuable scientist. Your role is shameful. You have let down the international community. Respect? Nah!

  9. BS says:

Thanks for your help through some very challenging times. It really is time to for day 4 and day ten arrival test to no longer be mandatory. Should have arrival test mandatory and strongly advise home antigen test for days four and ten .

  10. Troy Caines says:

She should’ve be been to stay and complete the job . And given her the resources and make it work for her and her team. Congratulations to you for helping us out at this time when we needed it . Kudos to you wishing you blessings on your new venture .

  11. Valerie says:

Thank you Dr. Weldon. I am very proud of you as a young Bermudian with what you have achieved in the science field despite what others may say.
It is great to read, that you stood up for what was right and unlike some others.

  12. Barbara Cooper says:

Thank you Dr Weldon – for your invaluable medical services to the Island – and for putting your career on hold in order to assist your homeland. I wish you every success in your ongoing work and studies. Bermuda’s loss is another Country’s gain.

Unfortunately, this is another prime example of how the PLP Government has once again failed the very people who voted for them !

  13. dunn juice says:

    police commissioner now her.
Things that make you say hmmmm

  14. Dr R. Williams-Gibbons says:

    Well done, Dr Carika Weldon!
You’ve inspired some other young people I know. May God continue to do great things through you!

  15. Rosamund says:

What an outstanding achievement, Dr Weldon! Your contribution to our island home of Bermuda, and to the field of science, is worthy of long-term recognition. Please know that your timely gifts of research, organizational leadership, service and inspiration – during the COVID-19 pandemic – do not end with your leaving.

  16. Joe Bloggs says:

Thank you, Dr. Weldon. I am grateful you came home to help us through these unprecedented times. I only wish you had been treated with the respect you deserve (at least, deserve in the eyes of some of us).

  17. Gene says:

A spokeswoman for the Ministry of Health said on Wednesday that MDL and Dr Weldon, the Government’s scientific adviser, was being “provided with the support to meet the current demands”.

This is is direct contrast to what Dr Weldon is saying.

So who are we to believe?

My money is on the Doc

  18. Anthony Outerbridge says:

Thank you very much for your fine public service to Bermuda, especially during such a difficult time. You are an inspiration to many, especially the young people. I wish you all the best for the future.

  19. kim ingham says:

Sad to know your Leaving, you are very much Appreciated Dr. Weldon for such High Demand of Accomplishments a Scientist and Doctor.
