Dunkley: Premier Should Provide Full Statement

January 27, 2022

“The people need answers” about Curtis Richardson’s appointment, MP Michael Dunkley said, adding that “it would be appropriate that next week when Parliament resumes the Premier provides a full statement on why he made the appointment knowing about the ongoing debt issues with the senior landlord and why his instructions were not followed.”

Mr Dunkley said, “Why the silence? It is unacceptable and concerning that Premier Burt has so far refused to answer many questions regarding the appointment of former Senator Richardson in light of the fact that upon appointment to the Senate the Premier was aware of the debt issues and gave ‘instructions’ that it be addressed.

“These instructions seem to have fallen on deaf ears and the Premier has not followed up! Why has the Premier been very silent? The people need answers and not a statement of support from a party spokesperson that raises more questions!

“It would be appropriate that next week when Parliament resumes the Premier provides a full statement on why he made the appointment knowing about the ongoing debt issues with the senior landlord and why his instructions were not followed.

“While in Opposition, David Burt was always seeking transparency on issues, and rightly so, but now as Premier he frequently seems to have lost his tongue when difficult issues arise and questions are asked. To say the least it is shocking that an elderly person has been treated like this, that the Premier has failed to act in spite of being warned and the senior has been intimidated.

“The Premier’s track record points to a clear lack of judgement when making appointments. One just needs to recall the debacle with former MP Rolfe Commissiong who was appointed to the Senate and then rescinded after a public outcry. Again Premier Burt was fully aware of allegations against him when he made the appointment.

“This matter needs to be cleared up, questions answered and the elderly landlord should receive the money rightly owed.

“In addition this must not be a distraction from other areas of critical importance for the Government during Covid, high unemployment and a very poor economy under the PLP,” Mr Dunkley added.

  2. Vote for Me says:

Let’s give MP Dunkley full marks for being a politician trying to remain in the spotlight.

But sorry – no story here. Everyone should be given the opportunity to serve and not just the privileged few.

Senator Richardson has made the ultimate decision to resign and he will undoubtedly address what is a private matter, in a private manner.

We should all be reminded that those in glass houses..

MP Dunkley might want to recall the ‘discipline’ awarded to Sen Vic Ball after awarding his father the aggregate contract.

    • Double S says:

What about individuals who tell elderly ladies to not bother taking them to court because they will lose due to their political affiliation?

Are they suitable to be in a governing admin? Is that a story? Love how you guys never ever address that point.

It’s is supporters like you and the other zealots on this thread that give elected and appointed representatives to do as they please. No standards, but low standards.

PS. Vic Ball situation happened whilst he was a civil servant under a PLP administration.

    • Please stand up says:

Do you really believe he, on his own, made the decision to resign?

The best you can do is refer to Sen Vic Ball to distract?

So, since that troubles you, please share your thoughts on the following contracts, who got them, their connection to the PLP and why?

      Bermuda Cement Company C
Playboy Mansion / Urban League Poker Party
      Berkeley Contract / Proactive
      TCD Building
      Coco Reef 50 year lease
Emissions Centre that ran for decades and never set an emissions standard
      DLBE Building Contract
      Port Royal Golf Course
      Dockyard Cruise Ship Pier
      Tourism / Globalhue Contract x 2
      Faith Based Tourism Contract
      Sandys 360

Do I need to go on? If you need more, please let me know, I will me happy to oblige

So yes, I agree with you, we should be reminded that those in glass houses…

  3. Really says:

    Really Dunkley where you also aware of the following persons you appointed that owed monies or had ‘issues’ with funds;

    Vic Ball
    Jeff Sousa
    And the list continues..

Stop the cheap political point scoring

    • Question says:

Did they stiff an elderly lady out of her rent, while collecting government paychecks?

    • Please stand up says:

Did they tell those that they owed money to that they shouldn’t pursue because they were affiliated with the then Government? No! Did they refuse to pay after being ordered to by the courts? No! I mean , are you really defending him?!

  4. watching says:

    This guy is so disingenuous.
The Premier has nothing to do with the outstanding debt.
Then he goes on to say this shouldn’t be a distraction, but Mr. Dunkley aren’t you are continuing to make it one?

    • Question says:

You have absolutely no idea what happened, do you.

    • Please stand up says:

You say the Premier has nothing to do with the outstanding debt! LOL. He is the leader of this country an the leader of the party that has government most of the last 20+ year. He and the PLP have everything to do with our GROWING debt. If he isn’t responsible, then who is? I await the names and reasons why, but something tells me you wont reply.

  5. Pot meet kettle says:

Ok Dunkley if you provide full disclosure on JetGate and gaming we will have our Premier provide more details. Fair?

    • Unknown800k says:

      Unknown800k too?!

      • White Wash says:

Your worrying about $800K when the obaUBP have us on the hook for $185 million morgans point hotel LOLOLOLOLOL!!

        • Unknown800k says:

How about just the national debt, the hospital, dockyard, court building.port royal.. need more or still got Your blinders on. Oh just in case Berkeley school

    • Toodle-oo says:

Which Jetgate ? The REAL plp one that no-one wants to talk about ?

      • Please stand up says:

Yes , it amazes me that the PLP bring up Jetgate which is amazing since the PLPs own version with Globalhue actually involved millions?

The big deal that the PLP made of the situation they called Jetgate cost Bermuda $0. Global hue / Tourism contract and private jet ride ended in a contract being awarded and renewed without going to tender and cost us millions!

        • SandgrownAn says:

  7. Lioness says:

Serz Dunks! This is the problem in Bermuda people forget the things they do and turn blind eyes or deaf ears on to until they can use a platform to pull another down. This country is in such a bad shape because we deal with our issues through media outlets.
Man o Man call him Dunks express your concerns if they are truly for the people! Stop using the media to air out dirty laundry. Maybe then our young man will learn how to settle their differences man o man instead of publicly for points.
Stop the backbiting and gossiping and deal with the real issues the country and her people are facing.
Housing, joblessness disrespect, teenagers raising children lack of therapy for the children (and family members )of murdered fathers and daughters. The GRIEF this island has been exposed to over more than two decades of killings. Children, mothers, aunts, uncles etc.
Deal with the persistent issues plaguing this country

  8. sandgrownan says:

Good to see DDS in full display here.

Of course, that indicates he’s right to ask the questions. As others have pointed out elsewhere, it’s not that the dude had debt, it’s how he behaved knowing he had debt.

  9. Charlie Brown says:

I think that by now you must have enough pieces on file by Michael Dunkley that you could publish a small book of his humour – he is joking, right? I can’t imagine anybody consistently taking themselves that seriously. I do wonder some days what they may be smoking over there on Vesey St. Regardless, who knows, such a modest investment could turn into an international best seller…

    Your Faithful Correspondent.

  10. Triangle Drifter says:

Oh dear…looks like Dunkley stepped on some tender toesy woesies again.

    • swing voter no more!!! says:

Which donkey you mean the same one who gave you 30-6?

      • sandgrownan says:

        Going well isn’t it.

No buses, no trash pick, roads terrible, post not delivered, increasing debt, declining jobs, declining tax base, Hamilton a ghost town, no tourists…….

That’s what 30-6 and 20 years of ineptitude gets you.
