Bermuda Scouts Tag Day Fundraiser On Feb 26th

February 23, 2022

The Scout Association of Bermuda will be holding a tag day at Lindo’s Family Foods in Devonshire and Warwick this Saturday [Feb 26], to raise funds for programming, activities and camping trips.

“Scouting helps children and young adults reach their full potential and encourages them to make a positive impact in communities,” said Geoffrey Rothwell, Chief Commissioner for the Bermuda Scouts. “Our aim is to raise money so we might honour our commitment that no child be denied this opportunity due to financial constraints. Fundraisers like this weekend’s tag day help accomplish this.”

A spokesperson added. “This tag day follows close on the heels of Founder’s Day, celebrated on February 22nd, in honour of Lord Baden-Powell, who started the scouting movement prior to the First World War. Today we continue to honour Lord Baden-Powell’s philosophy that camp is an integral part of the scouting experience, “…a week of camp life is worth six months of theoretical teaching in the meeting room.”

“Scout camps, which are hosted throughout the year, provide much more than an outdoor adventure – children learn the lifelong skills of teamwork, independence, and creativity. Bear Grylls, Chief Scout UK, once said that “scouting gave me a confidence and camaraderie that is hard to find in modern life.”

“By taking part in diverse activities across the island the Bermuda Scouts learn leadership, survival skills and develop lifelong friendships. The Bermuda Scout Association is proud to be able to provide its participants with multiple camping experiences from week long island camping trips in the summer, to multiple weekend camping trips across the island in the fall, winter and spring seasons. Additionally, Bermuda Scouts are eligible to travel around the world, participating in camping trips and jamboree activities.”
