Scouts Seek New Bermuda Volunteer Leader
Scouts is seeking a community leader to serve as the new Lead Volunteer of Bermuda, with applications closing at 9.00am on Monday, September 14.
A spokesperson said, “Scouts has launched a search for an inspiring community leader to help write the next chapter of Scouting in Bermuda, strengthening opportunities for young people to find friendship, experience adventure and develop skills for life.
“Bermuda Scouts currently supports around 100 young people, made possible by the commitment of around 20 adult volunteers. The new Lead Volunteer of Bermuda will bring together volunteers, young people and community partners to build on this strong foundation and shape an ambitious future for Scouting across the territory.
“The appointment comes as Scouts begins delivering Place to Belong, its new strategy to 2035. Shaped by volunteers, community leaders and young Scouts, the strategy responds to what young people say they need to navigate an increasingly unpredictable world.
“Its vision is to empower more young people, through adventure, teamwork and shared values, to take the lead in making a positive difference in the world.
“At a time when many young people face uncertainty, isolation and pressure, Scouts provides somewhere beyond home or school where they can be themselves, build lasting friendships and feel welcomed, supported and safe.
“The new Lead Volunteer will help bring that vision to life in Bermuda. They will work with local Scout Groups to strengthen and grow Scouting, support the 19 adult volunteers who make it possible and create opportunities for even more young people to take part in adventurous, inclusive and relevant activities.
Nat Segaren, Lead Volunteer for the British Overseas Territories, said: “Scouting is about much more than activities and badges. It gives young people a place where they can be themselves, form friendships, discover what they are capable of and feel that they truly belong.
“Bermuda has a proud Scouting tradition, with 98 young people currently benefiting from the dedication of 19 remarkable adult volunteers. We now have an exciting opportunity to build on this strong foundation.
“We want to hear from someone who can bring people together, listen to young people and volunteers, and build strong relationships across the community.
“This is a chance to shape the future of an organisation that makes a lasting difference to young people’s lives. The person appointed will help ensure that Scouting in Bermuda remains strong, relevant and open to every young person, regardless of their background, faith or circumstances.
“You do not need to have held a senior position in Scouts before. Leadership experience gained through another charity, business, public service, education, sport, faith group or community organisation could be equally valuable. What matters most is the ability to inspire people and a genuine belief in the potential of Bermuda’s young people.”
The spokesperson said, “The Lead Volunteer will provide strategic leadership across Bermuda Scouts while supporting the volunteers who deliver Scouting every week. They will help local teams work together, recruit and develop volunteers, maintain a strong safeguarding culture and identify opportunities to reach more young people and communities.
“Bermuda Scouts is part of UK Scouts’ British Overseas Territories Team, alongside Scouting in Anguilla, the British Virgin Islands, the Cayman Islands and Gibraltar. The successful candidate will join a wider network committed to sharing ideas, strengthening Scouting and creating international opportunities for young people.
