Mini-BizCamp Set For February 14 To 19
The Youth Entrepreneurship Initiative [YEI] in conjunction with the Economic Development Department will offer a mini-BizCamp from February 14 to 19.
A spokesperson said, “It will be a combination of person workshops held mornings at Impact Academy and online video lectures participants will do on their own time.
“This blended learning model will feature the award winning NFTE Curriculum modified for the YEI’s BizCamp format along with informative, interactive activities. Participants will log in through the Bermuda Entrepreneurship Schools platform to learn about opportunity recognition, cost of goods, pricing, industry analysis, target customers, marketing, and many other aspects of running a company. At the end of the week, each participant will present the business plan for their own company.”
Ray Jones, Director of the Economic Development Department, said, “Entrepreneurship is a crucial pillar of our economy. Nurturing entrepreneurial aspirations in Bermuda’s youth will ensure that the Island will continue to be in good hands with businesses starting, creating jobs, and growing self-sufficiency and sustainability. The EDD is pleased to continue to support BizCamps as it has over time, and we can’t wait to see what great ideas Bermuda’s students will present at the end of the week.”
BizCamp participant Portia McGhie delivering her BizPlan presentation:
The spokesperson said, “There is no cost to any aspiring young Bermudian teenagers interested in learning how to start and run their own business. During the past 20 years, over 1,000 youths have developed and presented business plans, earning certificates for participating in the YEI’s BizCamp.
“Participants will log in through the Bermuda Entrepreneurship Schools platform to learn about opportunity recognition, cost of goods, pricing, industry analysis, target customers, marketing, and many other aspects of running a company.”
Joe Mahoney, Executive Director of the YEI, said, “The goal is to inspire young people to become business-savvy and understand economic self-sufficiency through self-employment. Participants are provided with a business plan template. After learning the concepts, they complete the plan with information for their own business”.
The spokesperson said, “All participants completing a BizPlan will be awarded certificates, and some may be eligible to enter in the Bermuda Economic Development Corporation’s Youth Rocket Pitch Competition in October, where they have a chance to win prizes and venture funding up to $2,500 to further their entrepreneurial journey.”
Jamillah Lodge of the Bermuda Economic Development Corporation said, “This is an awesome opportunity to see what the future of Bermudian entrepreneurship looks like.”
The spokesperson said, “The sign-up begins today and will close on February 12th.
