Bermuda’s Under 14 Boys’ team of Zach McGuire, Tobiah Goodchild, and Johnny Bart lost to Trinidad and Tobago 3 – 0 in their opening Group B match at the ITF World Junior Championships Pre Qualifier in El Salvador.

Bart was first on the court in the number two singles spot and he went down in a three-setter to Daniel Rahaman, Bart won the first set 6-2, but Rahaman would win the second set 6-2, before winning the decider 6-4.

McGuire was next on the court in the number one singles spot, going down in straight sets to Kale Costa 6-4, 6-2.

In the doubles, Goodchild, and McGuire went down in straight sets to Jordell Chapman and Rahaman 6-4, 7-6.

Coach Neal Towlson said, “Bart gave immense energy and fight for every point, but he was unfortunate, next up we had McGuire his opponent was a strong player with lots of power, which McGuire handled with great control and composure.

“And finally, we had Goodchild and McGuire for the doubles match. We had a shaky start but then found our fight and rhythm and in a great match ended up losing 4-6 7-6.

“Overall I am very proud of the effort and composure that the boys displayed today. I know we have another tough match tomorrow against the Dominican Republic, but we will be out there again giving it our all! Bermuda should be very proud of the representation we had on court today.”
