Members of the Rotary Interact clubs of Bermuda are getting set to take part in the Empowerment Girls Conference on March 25.

A spokesperson said, “Two dozen young ladies in Bermuda are poised to engage in a special empowerment retreat with an international component.

“The teens, all members of the Rotary Interact clubs of Bermuda, will attend the Empowerment Girls Conference on March 25th from 9.00am to 1.30pm at the Royal Hamilton Amateur Dinghy Club, where they will hear motivational speeches from a list of high-powered women executives from various professions in Bermuda.”

Pembroke Rotary Director Jason Taylor said, “Guest speakers include Wespeak members Laura Taylor, President of Nephila Capital; Kendaree Burgess, CEO Bermuda Chamber of Commerce; the Bermuda Tourism Authority’s director of global sales and business development, Hazel Clarke; and Tricha Pitcher, head Aquarist of the BAMZ.”

Hamilton Rotary Director Cathy Bassett said, “The Empowerment Conference is part of the Rotary District 7230 United Nations event and Bermuda fits within the district. As such the added attraction for the Interact members is a special invite to view the live stream of the program directly from the U.N. on Friday.”

The spokesperson said, “The theme for the U.N. Conference is ‘Empowering Girls,’ with delegates addressing the question ‘how do we create a safe and more resilient world for girls as we re-open societies amidst the impact of Covid?’

“The U.N. event slogan is ‘a better world for girls, a prosperous world for all.’

“During this month of March, the community has given recognition to many of the women in our society who have contributed to the well being of Bermuda for many years. In keeping with this theme, the Rotary Clubs will take the opportunity to present awards to long term Rotary leaders, Director Joy Lusher and Past District Governor Barbara Edwards.

“The Retreat is under the auspices of the Rotary Clubs of Bermuda.”
