“Object Origin Is Attributed To Fishing Vessel”

March 3, 2022

Debris that “washed ashore on the beach that judging by supplied photographs appears to be a white wood cabin top of a fishing vessel” that sank in the South Shore area off of Hungry Bay last week.

A Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre spokesperson said, “Saturday 26th February, 9:00am – Telephone call received from a member of the public who had returned home from a visit to Warwick Long Bay beach. Caller reports finding debris washed ashore on the beach that judging by supplied photographs appears to be a white wood cabin top of a fishing vessel.

“Object origin is attributed to the 22 foot fishing vessel Step Aside that sank in the South Shore area off of Hungry Bay last week. Attempts are made to confirm same with the boat’s owner, without success. Contact is eventually made with someone familiar with the vessel and they believe the cabin top on the beach is indeed from the boat. This will be confirmed once the sunken hull still offshore on the bottom is next located.”
