Photo Wins ‘Portrait of Humanity’ Prize
A portrait taken by Bermudian photographer Meredith Andrews has been selected as one of thirty winning single images for Portrait of Humanity 2022.
The winning image is of Mr. Brangman, a well-respected former educator, taken outside his Somerset home. Mr. Brangman’s exceptional garden and self-expression in the form of signs affixed to the walls of his home is well known to many West enders. The image was taken in May 2021.
As a winner the image will be exhibited worldwide, as part of the Portrait of Humanity Global Tour 2022. Plus, the 200 shortlisted images will be featured in the Portrait of Humanity book, Volume 4.
Two of Ms Andrew’s images were shortlisted for this year’s prize, the second being a portrait of 107-year-old Myrtle Edness. Both images will be featured in a book published by Hoxton Mini Press.
This is the second time Ms Andrew’s work has been shortlisted for this prize. In 2019, her image of PHC Zebra Majorettes at the Bermuda Day parade was shortlisted and published in Portrait of Humanity, Volume 2 in 2020.
Ms Andrew is delighted to have her photographs featured and said she realizes her work “would be nothing without her wonderful subjects – including Mr. Brangman, Mrs. Edness and the countless other Bermudians who have trusted her to capture their portraits.”
