April 12, 2022

Today Rise Marketing Ltd has launched a new student internship program, SkillCraft, under the leadership of Program Director and Coach Margot Shane and Marketing Director Emilie Faulkner Meek.

A spokesperson said, “SkillCraft is a social media and marketing internship for students between the ages of 15-18 years of age. This summer, SkillCraft will take 10 students and place them in 10 local host businesses for a 6-week, full-time internship.

“Emilie Faulkner-Meek will teach the interns marketing fundamentals and social media strategy to enable them to create and deliver a marketing and social media plan for their host business. Interns will take part in weekly one-on-one coaching sessions with Margot Shane to support them in achieving their personal and professional goals.”

Program Marketing Director Emilie Faulkner-Meek said, “All too-often, young people are thrown into the working world after high-school without any experience and often do not get certain opportunities due to lack of experience. My first job out of school was so challenging for me that I’ve felt compelled to give young people a chance to experience and develop skills, thoughts and behaviors that will help them find success in the future.

“Creating this marketing internship program in partnership with Margot who shares the same passion and has expertise in education was the perfect opportunity to do so.”

Program Director Margot Shane said, “Data compiled by local youth empowerment organizations, shows that the path between education and employment is often fraught with difficulty for young people because of their age, shortage of experience and maturity, lack of education and skills. Socio-economic status and other risk factors only serve to heighten the barrier.

“Experiential learning has been shown to be an effective and engaging way of exposing young people to the knowledge and skills they will need to thrive in the world of work. Emilie and I set out to build an experiential learning program that matched the skills and interests that young people have with needs in small business and non-profit operations.

“Bringing this program to fruition would not be possible without the support we have received from the community. We are very grateful to have been funded by the Centennial Bermuda Foundation’s Economic Participation Review Committee for our program this year, and for the partnership, shared resources and knowledge of BEDC, CedarBridge Academy, The Berkeley Institute, The Clarity Institute, Digicel, Ignite and Dion The Creative.”

The spokesperson said, “The program will run for the first time this summer starting July 5th, 2022. Applications are open until April 26th, 2022.

“Student and host-business application forms can be found here. You can find SkillCraft on IG and FB @SkillCraftBermuda.”
