Golf: Oliver Betschart Wins In San Antonio

Oliver Betschart has claimed yet another win, this time at the Fort Sam Golf Course in San Antonio, where he won his age group and also won overall in a field of 49 players.

A spokesperson said, “This weekend in the backdrop of the PGA Valero Texas Open, Oliver’s Coach, PGA Tour Professional and winner of the 1996 Texas Open, supported his juniors at the STPGA Junior Tour event less than half an hour away.

“Oliver played an impressive round of golf at the STPGA Fort Sam-La Loma course in San Antonio, shooting a 2 under 69 winning both his age group and entire field of 49 players.”

He came out on the front nine carding 2 birdies and an eagle and 3 bogeys and a lone birdie on the back nine, putting him 3 shots ahead of the field, for the win.

This is the last tournament after his intense 9-week schedule in the San Antonio area. Playing in 10 tournaments and recording 3 wins, 3 second place, 1 third place and 3 fifth place finishes.

Speaking at the prize presentation, the talented young golfer said,  “My goal here in Texas was to shoot in the 60’s in a tournament and I am happy that I was able to do it in my last event before returning to Bermuda, Thank you to the STPGA and Fort Sam for hosting the tournament, my coach and my parents for giving me the opportunity.”

Coach Ogrin said, “He played really well, we are all so proud of what he has accomplished over this short period.”

On the STPGA Junior Tour which started in January, Oliver was able to climb to 12th place playing in only 6 events and competing in a field of 218. On the STPGA Prestige Tour, which also started in January, Oliver was leading until last week and dropped to second place competing in 4 events in a field of 72. Both tours run through to August 2022.
