‘Pause For Peace’ Gathering On Good Friday

April 13, 2022

A gathering with the theme ‘Pause For Peace, Recreating Community’ will be held on Good Friday [April 15] at 10.30am at the Devonshire Recreation Club, coinciding with the club’s Community Fun Day.

A spokesperson said, “We supporters listed below join together in announcing that on Good Friday between 10.30 and 11 am, there will be a gathering at the Devonshire Recreation Club grounds under the theme ‘Pause for Peace, Recreating Community’. It will serve to launch the club’s traditional Good Friday Family Day. We include stakeholder organizations and consider ourselves neighbours of the Rec.

“This gathering is a response to the challenges being faced across the island, which the Rec has experienced directly. We are rallying to foster connections that include us all, leaving out no one. The gathering will include some music and artistic expression, sharing from both the spiritual and secular.

“The legacy of the Devonshire Recreation Club is one that spans beyond its neighbourhood to the whole island. It was the site of an iconic reconciliation decades ago; a pivotal historic moment which thankfully ended peacefully. Of course, being human, the club has not been perfect. However, it is evident that this organization has an innovative legacy that has helped to sustain the vital connections of our island’s community.

“One goal of this gathering is to promote an awareness of that legacy and foster a healthy sense of self across our community. It is our shared view that communities exemplify resilience when members of society are conscious of who they are and feel connected. This gathering is geared to that end.

“Those supporters, in addition to Devonshire Recreation Club; include BFA, Devonshire Colts, Dill Family, MIRRORS, Mid Atlantic Boat Club, NVCC, Seventh Day Adventist Church [Devonshire], and the Roman Catholic Church.”
