“Student Essays For The Soul” Book Signing
Bermudian author Neletha Butterfield will be signing copies of her latest book, “Student Essays for the Soul” at The Bookmart on Front Street on Saturday [May 7].
The book shares more than 200 essays written by students who either left or were expelled from public school before graduation.
Ms Butterfield, who founded the CARE Learning Centre in 1983, will be signing copies from 11 am to 3 pm.
A description of the book states: “Why did she save them all these years? These written expressions give us a beautiful glimpse of who these young persons and adults are and who they hoped to become. The essays present a before and after snapshot of their thoughts and feelings and their transformations through education.”
Ms Butterfield has dedicated her book to those students no longer with us, who not only enrolled in the CARE programme but completed the course and received their General Educational Development [high school diploma].
In a press release, Ms Butterfield said: “I enjoyed teaching these young men and their lives were touched too by many at the school. These young men worked diligently while in class and also did some wonderful things in the community.
“I wrote short essays on their goals and ambitions as my personal dedication to their souls, may they continue to rest in peace, Graham Steede II, Lloyd “Stiff” Burch, Shane Adderley, Ezariah Matthie, Oronde Wilson Jr and O’Dean Phillips.”
The book features a heartfelt foreword by former MP Ashfield DeVent.
