DPT Advise Of Bus Cancellations On Monday

June 12, 2022

[Updated with video] The Department of Public Transportation [DPT] advised “that there will be bus cancellations tomorrow morning, 13 June 2022, due to a shortage of resources for student transportation.”

A spokesperson said, “The Department will redeploy buses to cover the minibus shortage to ensure that school students are transported safely and get to school on time. This will leave some routes not fully covered.

“The Department is redirecting public bus transportation to minimize the impact on students who will begin examinations starting tomorrow.

“Public bus service will continue tomorrow throughout the day. DPT will provide an update on the school transportation tomorrow afternoon.

“The Department apologies for any inconveniences caused by the cancellations and urges commuters to make alternative arrangements.

Update Monday, June 13th, 3.00pm: Comment from Transport Minister Lawrence Scott who explained the situation and thanked the DPT staff for “stepping up and stepping in” to make sure they can get students to school.

This is how the owner /operators, care about our school children. They are just chasing the dollar. Watch when when cruise ship season ends they’ll be running back to government/DPT looking for work.

Go up Horseshoe Beach for the next couple of days and you’ll why our school children’s transportation is being neglected.

I’m not saying don’t contribute in accommodating the tourist/cruise industry. However let’s not forget our children.

Parents need to speak out, there should be less work(if any) for these operators/owners once the season is over.

Contracts to supply ships with transport are signed long before Government comes running to the mini bus operators for transport.

The only reason mini bus operators get contracts for beach transport is because the local public transport is so unreliable. Cruise ship operators don’t have any time for feeble excuses for non availability of buses. Privatise public transport & there would be little demand for mini buses.

Bottom line is the mini bus operators are only filling in for a failing infrastructure due to a broke Government !
Why should they not take full advantage of the cruise season …in this case it’s not greed, it’s just what is normal for them .

So much winning. How can we not even run a public transportation service?
