‘No Real Progress On Return Of BMU Codes’

June 21, 2022

“Sadly still no real progress on the return of BMU codes to Bermuda passports,” Premier David Burt said, adding that “it is unfortunate for Bermudians negatively affected by @GOVUK’s decision to take back passport printing from Overseas Territories that there has been no resolution in 6 years.”

The UK took over the printing of British Overseas Territories passports back in 2016, which was not a position welcomed by most the Territories, and the Bermuda Government has sought to resolve the issue over the years, especially as some people have experienced issues due to the lack of ‘BMU’ code.

Premier Burt recently tweeted the photo below, saying: “Met with Minister Amanda Milling today. Sadly still no real progress on the return of BMU codes to Bermuda passports. It is unfortunate for Bermudians negatively affected by @GOVUK’s decision to take back passport printing from OTs that there has been no resolution in 6 years.”
