Erica Hawley said there were plenty of positives to take from her sixteenth-place finish in the women’s triathlon at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham today.
Hawley, who finished in 58min 29sec, said she felt far more competitive than when she made her Commonwealth Games debut on the Gold Coast, Australia, four years ago.
“This Commonwealth Games had a lot more competitive [field today],” Hawley said. “I finished sixteenth again, but I feel my race was way [better].
“I was in the main group in this race and felt more competitive. I definitely think I’ve improved.
“My run is slowly improving. It’s just a process. Flora [Duffy] has done four Commonwealth Games. I think I can have two more in eight years!
The 24-year-old, who arrived in Birmingham in fine form after finishing third at the recent Americas Triathlon Cup Long Beach in California – her first podium in the elite Continental Cup – told Bernews, “Today was one of those races when I feel like I made a lot of mistakes.
“I just tried to soak it in, and the crowd was really good. All around, I’m happy.”
Congratulations. Good for you great spirit and keep on young lady. You did your best. Your day is coming.
