Five homers powered the Moongate Brewers to the A Division title over Paraquet Flyers. Flyers held the early lead as Leonardo Silvera [4-4] scored two of the club’s first five runs. A homer by Graham Frith [2-5] put Paraquet up 7-5 in the fourth before the bottom dropped out.

A five-run fifth, thanks partly to a Gary Adams [3-4] homer, gave Moongate a lead they would not relinquish. Home runs by Shane Furlong [2-5], and Somers Carr [3-3] helped salt away the A Division title as Moongate won 16-12. Alex Styche [3-4] and Shane Kohls [3-4] also homered in the triumph. Kelvin Vargas [5-5] had a valiant effort in trying to turn this game around for Paraquet.

Still reeling from that loss, the Flyers were handily defeated in Game 1 of their playoff series versus the Blue Wahoos. A hectic first inning saw Flyers outscore Wahoos 7-6 as Silvera [2-5] hit the first of his two homers for Paraquet. Jeremy Etsy [4-6] hit the first of what would be six homers for Wahoos.

They would pile on eight more runs in the second, Shane Matchett [3-6] blasting one out of the park. Chris Coleman [4-6] would homer twice, while Jeff Morash [3-6] and Shannon Gosse [4-5] would also put the ball out of play. Kevin Albrecht [4-5] and Matt Katzsch [3-3] aided in the 28 hits Wahoos would get. Joe Torres [4-5], Jorgito Castellanos [5-5], and Frith [3-5, 4 RBI] had fine performances in the loss for Paraquet.

In the Women’s playoffs, division winner Angels used a five-run first inning to coast to a 9-2 victory over Hardknockz. The win had them sweep the series as they also won the first game 18-11.

Shawnette Perrott [2-3] knocked in two runs in the first and two more in the fifth to lead the Angels with four RBI. Nina Webb was a perfect 3-3 at the plate, while Cassandra Trott and Terry Paynter were both 2-3. Sarah Robinson was 3-3 in the loss, while her teammates Tache King and Latreece Fray were both 2-3, with Robinson and Jade Weaver picking up the RBIs for Hardknockz.

The other women’s playoff series saw Rainbows get a rare shutout triumph in a 15-0 blanking of PHC Zebras. Rainbows also swept their series, taking the first contest 12-10. Leadoff batter Natasha Lambert scored in the top of the first, and that would be all the runs Rainbows would need, but not all they would get. Abigail Kempe [3-4] had two homers and 6 RBI to be the Woman of the Match. Stacey Paynter, Rachelle Hendrickson, Stephanie Orango, Tiffany Milne, and Sherron Milne all had two hits in a balanced attack for Rainbows. Taznae Fubler and Isheena Symonds had one hit apiece for PHC.

B Division playoff favourites Hakuna Mata Lions lived up to their hype with a fifth-inning mercy-win over FIU Scared Hitless 26-11. Hakuna Mata scored 17 runs in the first two innings, with AJ Durham [4-4] smacking the team’s only homer. Brian Hall [3-4] knocked in four runs while Scott Barnes [3-3], Aaron Bloom [3-4], Justin Wall [2-2], Jade Weaver [3-4], and Preston Mallory [2-4] all added to the hit parade. Marcello Thomas [3-3] and Troy Pitcher [2-2] were the only FIU players with more than one hit.

Team Smokey was too hot to handle for the Beach Bums. Smokey won their contest 13-10 as it was a game of two halves. Smokey scored 13 runs in the first four innings, while Bums scored nine of their 10 runs in the final two frames. Tariah Hill and Albert Acevedo were both 2-2 for Smokey, with Quincey Jones 2-3. The first three batters for Bums, Michael Armstrong, Jeff Olson, and Ryan Stearns, were all 3-4 in the loss.

Mike’s Trucking, the C Division favorite, squeaked past Oddballs 9-8 on a walk-off single from Jalen Martin [3-4]. Oddballs grabbed an early 3-1 lead as Curran Tremouth [3-3] blasted a three-homer. Trucking went on top 6-4 in the fourth, Carlos Lima [2-4] clearing the bases with a double. Oddballs knotted the score in the fifth and briefly held an 8-6 advantage in the seventh, Savanah Stafford [3-4] and Jeff Chisnall [2-4] leading the way. A double by Lima and an intentional walk to Sam Outerbridge set the stage for an exciting finish. Ray Martin [2-4] flew out, then Mike Oliveira reached on a two-out error to bring up Martin to deliver the victory.

The other C Division playoff game was also a thriller as Super Express, and KillaWhat were tied at 15 heading into the last inning. Derwin Adams [4-4, 2 HR, 5 RBI] hit a solo shot to get Express rolling. Chay Carlington [2-4, HR] drove in a run, and Aaron Liverpool [3-4] knocked in two more to put Express up 19-15. The first two Killawhat batters reached base and scored on errors before the next three hitters went tamely, handing Express a 19-17 win. Corey Boyce [3-3] hit well in the loss.
