Kempe & Stovell Start Strong In Youth Worlds

Bermudian sailors Sebastian Kempe and Nicole Stovell started competing in the Youth Sailing World Championships in the Netherlands, making a very strong showing on the first day.

Kempe currently leads the 61-strong male international fleet, while Stovell is in 25th place in the 56-strong female international fleet.

Kempe sailed to victory in the two races in the day in the Male One Person Dinghy Fleet; he has a six-point lead on second place Yogev Alcalay from Israel, with Ole Schweckendiiek from Germany is in third with 10 points. In the Female One Person Dinghy, Stovell has 45 points after finishing the first race in 22nd and crossing the line in 23rd in the second race.

The event — which includes over 400 sailors from 67 nations — is taking place off the coast of Scheveningen in the Netherlands from July 8-15 2022, and the organisers noted that “almost all current Olympic champions have competed in previous editions of the Youth Sailing World Championships.”
