Minister: ‘The Pandemic Is Nowhere Near Over’

July 14, 2022

“The pandemic is nowhere near over,” Minister of Health Kim Wilson said, noting that case numbers are rising and “there is an increase in people coming through the Emergency Department with the coronavirus, and hospital admissions have also risen.”

The latest test results stated there are are now 28 people in hospital, as compared to 12 people on July 6th and 5 people on June 29th

In releasing the test results last night, Minister of Health Kim Wilson said, “The pandemic is nowhere near over, and Covid-19 remains a Public Health Emergency of International Concern, reconfirmed by the World Health Organisation as recently as this week.

“We must continue to take precautions and avoid the risks of getting infected. Our case numbers are rising, and our test result data is undercounted as most people are testing at home and not reporting their positive status to the Government.

“There is an increase in people coming through the Emergency Department with the coronavirus, and hospital admissions have also risen. I am strongly encouraging everyone to please continue to follow public health guidance.”

The World Health Organization said on Tuesday that Covid-19 remains a global emergency, nearly 2-1/2 years after it was first declared. ”Covid-19 is nowhere near over,” WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus told a virtual press conference from Geneva after the announcement. “As the virus pushes at us, we must push back.”

No one is reporting to gov because gov quarantine period is outdated. It doesn’t make sense and it doesn’t match the rest of the world.

    You did this to yourself.

  2. Bright & Early says:

I believe that if we all start wearing our masks again. Did you look at the people a few weeks ago at the Parade. It was wall to wall people with no masks and of course the virus is going to travel? Hopefully we will have a better year next year but until our immune systems are fighting this virus we will have it around.

Get over it protect yourself the best you can and stop whining. Get on with it! Or maybe you’d rather the world shut down for the next 10 years??

  3. Joe Bloggs says:

    “Our case numbers are rising,”

Not just ours. Take a look at the U.K. or Canadian news.

    Numbers are up everywhere!
Now, you can mask everyone up at Cupmatch if you so desire but the place will be empty. It’s toooooo hot to wear a mask.
It seems to me that restaurants are frequented by seniors and many other at risk folks. We as a community all stayed home to protect them but sometime I do t feel like they protect themselves. We sacrificed for the benefit of them. Frankly, my and others businesses can’t survive much more. So if you’re at risk, stay home please, because I don’t want you to die but I also don’t want people losing their homes, children without enough to eat, more unemployment …….

This is like going to a magician show – Look here not there. Covid is a great money maker for Government, the TAF, but has nothing to do with keeping Covid out. It is a great fear monger to keep the emergency powers renewed. It’s a great fear monger to use to repress the population with quarantines. How many positives have no symptoms, a headache or minor symptoms like the flu? If Government employees, especially MPs, lost their paychecks like so many in the the private sector do, all this would be a thing of the past.
