Basden, Botelho, Tucker Earn HAB Scholarships
The Hospitals Auxiliary of Bermuda [HAB] has presented scholarships to Chelsea Basden, Saraé Botelho, and Naysaa Tucker.
A spokesperson said, “Every year, the Hospitals Auxiliary of Bermuda presents scholarships to some of our deserving senior candy stripers who are pursuing their education. This year, we are proud to present three awards totaling $10,000 to the following students:
- Chelsea Basden – $5,000 – University Denison, Ohio – Biology – pre-med
- Saraé Botelho – $2,500 – Georgia State University – Bachelors of Science and Nursing
- Naysaa Tucker – $2,500 – American Musical & Dramatic Academy
HAB President Davida J. Simons said, “We are very proud of these young ladies and wish them every success in their future endeavours.”
The spokesperson said, “The Hospitals Auxiliary awards scholarships on an annual basis. It is awarded to any candy striper who is currently enrolled in the programme and has completed a minimum of two years and is in the programme at the time of application. Scholarships may be used for continued studies in Bermuda or at an accredited institution of higher learning abroad. Scholarships must be applied to the cost of education only, e.g. tuition, books and school fees.
“There are currently 119 candy stripers enrolled in the HAB programme. The HAB takes in approximately 40 students annually. Interested young men and women can register to be considered by making an application in writing. Applicants must apply before their 14th birthday.
