Garbage Collection Will Be Delayed This Week

August 3, 2022

“Garbage collection will be delayed today and through the end of the week” as staff shortages and the “ongoing supply chain issues have led to a backlog of vehicles awaiting repair” and they “hope to have this backlog cleared and more vehicles in service by the end of the week,” the Government advised this evening.

A Government spokesperson said, “The Ministry of Public Works Waste Management Section is advising the public that garbage collection will be delayed today and through the end of the week.

“Staff shortages within the maintenance team due to vacation coverage and training, in addition to the ongoing supply chain issues, have led to a backlog of vehicles awaiting repair.

“The Ministry hopes to have this backlog cleared and more vehicles in service by the end of the week.

“The Waste Collection Team is working today to finish the collection of Tuesday’s waste and will start to collect today’s waste later today.

“The Ministry appreciates the public’s patience and asks them to remember to do their part in managing household waste by storing their bagged waste in lidded bins to minimise issues associated with lost garbage bags.

“Vermin, wild birds and neighbourhood pets can readily tear open garbage bags, leading to waste and litter fouling our neighbourhoods and roadsides.

“The public is also reminded that the Tynes Bay Public Drop-Off is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. 7 days a week and is a free drop-off for drivers of private cars, L and LP vehicles.”

Unfortunately for any GOV.. oba & plp it’s the failure of the TOP civil servants. They alone run the day + day operation making $150k plus and continue to FAIL us all. The OBA + PLP need to implement a new procedure and appoint folks from the private sector to be Permeant Secretaries and Heads of these Departments to run the operation. The current ones R hopeless.

The other week, Minister Burch was taking praise for having so many more trucks available. What happened in such a short space of time? Nothing works anymore.
Just more excuses for non performance, and no, I’m not taking garbage to Tynes Bay. I’ve paid taxes for W & E to do that. Give me a refund and maybe I’ll do it.

Bollocks. Failure to plan, failure to manage and a Cup Match hangover.

I think we should all delay our tax payments.

    I am shocked – NOT

  5. More inept PLP, they could not organize a piss up in a brewery.

  6. Triangle Drifter says:

What if there was a delay in the importing of food & getting it on the shelves everytime a holiday rolled around or there was a pandemic of some sort?

Would that be acceptable? Does it happen? Importing food is a complex operation. It goes through many hands yet it arrives on the shelves without feeble excuses.

There is nothing especially complex about picking up trash yet getting the job done is too much for W&E.

  7. Maddog says:

Trash sitting out now in the heat for 3 days in Warwick…the stench flies and mess….poor management and planning…hire private trucks and get it collected …very unsanitary…

  8. Warrrior says:

Delay npw is trying to decide which private truckers to pay big $$$ to for collecting trash. Minister and others responsible need to be fired. Same as PTB.
