Proclamation Ceremony On September 11
On Sunday [Sept 11] at 9.00am at the Flagpole on Front Street there will be a Proclamation Ceremony to mark the accession of His Majesty King Charles III.
A Government spokesperson has confirmed that “in keeping with the protocol on the passing of the Sovereign, the UK and the Overseas Territories have entered a period of National Mourning.”
A Government spokesperson said, “Earlier today at Government House, there was a 21-rifle salute to mark the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.
“On Sunday, September 11 at 9.00am at the Flagpole on Front Street there will be a Proclamation Ceremony to mark the accession of His Majesty King Charles III. This ceremony will be presided over by Her Excellency the Governor, Rena Lalgie and all are welcomed to attend. Members of the public are asked to arrive by 8.30 a.m. in preparation for the arrival of marching units onto Front Street.
“For the information of the public, the Union Flag and all British Ensigns in Bermuda are to be lowered to half-mast until 8.00 a.m. on the day after Her Majesty the Queen’s State Funeral with the following exceptions:
- “The Union Flag and all British Ensigns in Bermuda are to be raised to full mast at 8.00 am on Saturday, September 10, 2022, the day of the Proclamation Ceremony for His Majesty King Charles III at St. James’s Palace. They are to remain at full mast until the conclusion of the Proclamation Ceremony for HM King Charles III in Bermuda on Sunday.
“With several sporting events taking place over the weekend, sporting bodies are invited to observe a moment of silence prior to their games and may determine if the wearing of black armbands or ribbons is appropriate.
“The public is reminded that the Official Book of Condolence is available for signing at Government House from 10.00 a.m. – 4.00 p.m., Monday through Friday, until the day of the funeral. Further observations regarding Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral, will be released in due course.
“Highlights of The Queen’s visits to Bermuda can be viewed on CITV, the Government’s television station at 8.00 p.m. tonight through Sunday evening. The public is encouraged to tune into CITV on One Comm ch. 2 and WOW ch. 102 to view the programmes.”

Why hasn’t the PLP Government announced the official mourning protocol? Look South and the Islands have already announced their protocol, and respect to the late Queen. Bermuda is probably following tradition and waiting to see what everyone else is doing first, then follow, eventually. Always retroactive, never proactive.
