Autumn Regatta To Take Place From Oct 7 To 9
The 2022 edition of this Autumn regatta takes place October 7 – 9tth, with 5 IODs and 5 J015s scheduled to take to the waters of the Great Sound this weekend.
A spokesperson said, “The Royal Bermuda Yacht Club [RBYC] looks forward to welcoming our international teams from the IOD fleet. The event is once again supported by Bacardi and Bermuda Premium Spirits Limited.
“RBYC Commodore Craig Davis and Blythe Walker will be carrying the RBYC banner in the IOD fleet along with the Club’s Senior Coach, Josh Greenslade. Blythe is a renowned IOD and Bermuda Gold Cup match racing sailor and a past Olympian so he should be a favorite to win the regatta.
“Completing the fleet are RHADC’s Bill McNiven [along with co-skipper Ray DeSilva] and visitors Courtenay Jenkins and the team from Manhattan Yacht Club [Doug Whitter & John Laskas]. Courtenay Jenkins finished runner up to winning Patrick Cooper last year. No doubt Jenkins will have his sights on winning this year. Unfortunately defending champion Patrick Cooper’s boat was sunk and damaged from hurricane Fiona and will not compete this year.
“Joining them on Saturday, October 8, will be the J/105 fleet. The favourite has to be, multiple time winner, Peter Bromby [Airforce] is back and faces stiff competition from RBYC’s Mark Cloutier’s Scatteraction with Adam Barboza on the helm. RHADC’s Trevor Boyce [Yabsta], East-End Mini Yacht Club’s Kelsey Durham [Elusive], RBYC’s James Macdonald [Passion], and Keith Chiappa [Windfire] are all in the mix.
“The weather forecast looks like it will be a light air regatta so there should be lots of lead changes as competitor search for wind on the racecourse. There is excitement in the air with everyone looking forward to a great time on and off the water.”
