Baha’is To Celebrate “Twin Holy Days”

October 24, 2022

At sundown on the 25th and sundown the 26th of October, 2022 the Bermudian Baha’i Community will join millions of Bahá’is around the world in observing the “Twin Holy Days”, commemorating the birthdays of the Báb and Baháʼu’lláh, respectively.

A spokesperson said, “The Báb is recognized as the Prophet-Herald of the Bahá’i Faith, who revolutionized religious thinking of the time, 19th century Persia [modern day Iran]. His ministry ushered in a new era in humanity’s spiritual development. His teachings established an independent religion and prepared the world for the coming of a new Manifestation of God, Baháʼu’lláh.

“To observe this sublime occasion, the National Spiritual Assembly of the Bahá’ís of Bermuda invites the community to a repeat viewing and discussion of the film, “Dawn of the Light” on Tuesday, October 25th. The evening will begin at 6 pm with refreshments and socializing, followed by the 45 minute film to begin promptly at 7 pm.

“This film was specially commissioned by the Bahá’í World Centre in 2019 for the bicentennial anniversary of the birth of the Báb , the forerunner of Baháʼu’lláh, founder of the Bahá’í Faith. The Báb’s life and role in spiritual history is akin to that of John the Baptist, announcing the advent of Christ. The Báb’s name means “the Gate” in Arabic, reflecting his lofty station as the herald of a new cycle of enlightenment in human history. His nine year ministry promoted the universality of God and radically uplifted the station of women.

“The Báb announced in 1844 the dawning of a new spiritual light for humankind, and prepared the decadent and unreceptive community for the arrival of the Revelation of Baháʼu’lláh. For the selfless promotion of the new religion, the Báb and 20,000 of his followers were persecuted and martyred. Before his untimely death at age 30, the Báb proclaimed that ‘One greater than Himself’ would arrive to fulfill the prophecies of all the great religions and usher in a new age. This would be Baháʼu’lláh.

“The new age promised for humanity is unfolding, painfully and chaotically, before our eyes. Baha’u’llah’s vision of a world characterized by justice, peace, unity and love, God’s Kingdom on Earth, is not in view. Yet, Bahá’ís recognize that this vision is for all well-wishers of humanity to turn into reality. All are invited to learn more about the vision of Baháʼu’lláh and to consider what work must be done to move closer to its fulfillment in Bermuda.

“In most Bahá’í communities around the world the Twin Holy Birthdays will be celebrated in different ways, in different spaces and settings whether nationally, regionally or locally in neighbourhoods. Throughout Bermuda with its eleven Bahá’í jurisdictions, families and friends will gather in their respective communities to mark the Twin Holy Birthdays, starting October 26th -27th, two days during which work and school are suspended.”
