Video: Parliament Convenes, Throne Speech
[Updated with PDF] The Convening of Parliament will take place this morning [Nov 4], with Deputy Governor Tom Oppenheim delivering the 2022 Throne Speech, which outlines the Government’s Legislative Agenda for the year ahead. A very uninspiring Throne Speech. Nothing about the declining private sector working population, which has a particular bearing on this issue:
“Unfunded liabilities must be confronted, and social insurance contributions made progressive. For too long Bermuda has been an international outlier and our social insurance system must be made to conform to ideals of equity”.
The defined benefit plan for the public sector has to be ended and replaced by contributory, as in the private sector. Can’t kick that can down the road for much longer.
