A superb display from Lionel Messi inspired Argentina to their sixth World Cup final after defeating Croatia in Qatar.
Messi now has an opportunity to follow in the footsteps of Argentina legend Diego Maradona by lifting a trophy that has eluded the Paris Saint-Germain forward throughout his decorated career.
He opened the scoring in the 34th minute from the penalty spot before Julian Alvarez doubled Argentina’s advantage with a superb solo effort five minutes later.
Messi, who was part of the Argentina side that lost to Germany at the 2014 World Cup in Rio de Janeiro, set up Alvarez for his second midway through the second period.
Argentina will meet the winner of tomorrow’s semi-final between France and Morocco in the final on Sunday.
